I am, don't know about you guys. My taxes will go up another 2500/yr if Congress doesn't keep the tax rates where they are.

This isn't a debate to say if taxes are good or bad, just a yes/no/don't care...and if want post how much its going up.

Current tax rates:

Next year's proposed tax rate:

It would be either services getting cut or taxes going up. I'm actually surprised taxes stayed the course for so long after all that has happened (if I'm not mistaken of course)

Hmm..looks like mine will be going DOWN, not up.

2010: 25% on the income between $34,000 and $82,400; plus $4,681.25
2011: 15% Bracket $0 – $70,040

Tic3 - That must be nice, you are one of the few.

Drew - Eventually they have to go up, I just hate not having that 2500 going into my bank next year.

Mine are also going down according to those links.
Maybe I'm super poor.

Mine are going down, only because I'm married though...

Man all of you guys are lucky...my wife and I barely pull 90 a year before taxes. Our take home is under 70. For some reason I have been getting screwed my entire working life with taxes. Supposedly the marrige penalty is going into effect and the tax credit for children is getting halved.

As a Canadian, and a poor student this thread has no relevance to me. I don't pay taxes, I'm too poor. Come tax season I get reimbursed for all the taxes I payed, and I qualify for quarterly checks to compensate for what I likely paid in gst taxes. In fact often I get back more than I paid in because of some weird credits. Come tax season this year I'll probably get 2500 back.

So I have to go to Canada to get a refund...how poor is poor in Canada? I had a refund last year, I think of $600, or I only had to pay in an extra 600. For some reason 600 is sticking with me. Anywho, even with me making 16000 a year in the military, I still didn't get a refund. To me, that is poor.

Come to think of it, I don't think I got a refund for the last 10 of the 12 years I have worked. Working 2 jobs for most of those years probably didn't help that out either.

If u make under 10 000$ you don't pay taxes in canada. With my tuition i usually bring it under that value.

You have to either have roommates or still living at home. There is no way...no scratch that, you can survive on that here in the states, just have to live in low income housing. Would not be fun.

Man, that wouldn't even cover my fun expenses for the year.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as MR. Tuition easily knocks me down in to the first bracket, so I just get refunds during tax season.

Saving is a wonderful thing.

I think we (the US) should go to a set tax rate for everyone. Say 15%. No exceptions, not exemptions, no loopholes, nada. Everyone pays 15% for taxes.

The fun expenses cover everything from food-fun, for me, it money left over after the wifus and I contribute to my daughter, house, and cars. I feel bad if I do not put at least 5k a year into some kind of savings for us.

I feel you on that one, although I would go further. No income tax period, but 25% tax on everything but necessities. Cars, gas, CD's, iPods, cellphones, games, TV's, etc., are not necessities. Would be nice to come home every week with a full paycheck, unfortunately that will not happen. It would disproportionately affect the poorer folk, at least that what they people say.

I am worried that the wealthy will not pull their weight and will find a way to not pay their share of the MUCH NEEDED TAXES to keep this great nation afloat a little bit longer. A little bit of extra taxing will not hurt the wealthy unless they do not know how to manage their money...which they do not seem to be able to do & promise to pass on their duty to the working men & ladies that buy the products or services provided. Less money in the hands of consumers spells disaster for the people hoping to sell their wares. The rich simply want to pull the money out of thin air or convince the poor that they should carry the wealthy on their shoulders like Gods.

I wish that government would see the need to downsize but neither Dems or Repub's actually want a smaller government. Some do want to downsize the key jobs that run the show so a select few people will run EVERYTHING & make the people their lapdogs. Thats what they mean by "smaller government". Over all the government will step keep expanding...especially the military so they can bully society when the time comes, & all the power will be held by less individuals so that they can steamroll anything they want into law!!! WAKE UP PEEPS! America is rapidly coming to an end!!!!

America is already run by other countries that bought America many years ago. Its only pretend now. Our military is being used as a tool to make the rest of the world fall into line. Smoke & mirrors. They keep us busy fighting each other or springing forth some new crazy media event that stops everyone from thinking about how horrible everything has become. How pathetic our people have become. Once the American work force was second to none, they got us thru 2 world wars, & now we are a bunch of lazy whiny baby boob suckers. PATHETIC!!!! America is the ghetto of the world now! We have nothing to offer the world except consumers who know how to borrow money so that they do not have to actually work hard for what they want!!!!!

YES!!! I went on a rant & so be it! Pay your taxes with pride or go suck your thumb! My taxes went down & so did 98% of the American work force! This means that those people who paid the extra money, only 2 % of the people, will have LOADS MORE money coming their way because the people will have extra money to spend. Look at the big picture. Its time to stop believing the scare mongers of the new news era & use our own noodle to interpret the truth!!

This is my post for the week so ENJOY!!!! :violin::violin::violin::violin:

BTW, my bank account is the biggest its ever been! I have been working 55+ hours a week for many months now & now I have a buttload of $$$$!!!! It feels so good! I have not felt any recession one bit!!!!

I was married 13 years and was punished by the government every one of those years. In fact, I had a very difficult time declaring as a single after becoming single. They didn't believe me. It took a few letters and faxes, but I finally proved I was single. I now usually get a return each year, but only after buying RRSP's each year. However, I should be able to retire with a full pension by 2020. You would think the government would help married people, but instead they tax you on the combined income, which is generally not in your favor. I've learned that it sucks to be married.

I've learned that it sucks to be married.

Do you know what the difference is between being married to the same woman for 5 years and having the same job for 5 years?

The job still sucks.

Here's a good one.

I have a job. I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes & the government
distributes my taxes as it sees fit.

In order to get that paycheck, in my case, I am required to pass a
random urine test (with which I have no problem).

What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to
people who don't have to pass a urine test.

So, here is my question: Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to
get a welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it for them?

Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on
their feet. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping
someone sitting on their BUTT----doing drugs while I work.

Can you imagine how much money each province (state) would save if people had
to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check?

I guess we could call the program "URINE OR YOU'RE OUT"!

Holding that view, one would also have to add TV, cable, Internet, and computers to your list.

No matter how you try to squeeze it out, it's not going to float much longer anyway...

I would go one better than that. I think everyone who is receiving public assistance should be required to work for it. Whether that work is community service, such as cleaning up empty lot and planting gardens in the inner cities, removing graffitti from public structures, helping to maintain low income housing, or whatever, everyone should be required to earn their assistance. Working for what you receive helps build self-esteem, provides necessary work experience to get a regular job and get off public assistance, improves our communities, and gives incentive to become a productive member of society.

The welfare experiment in it's present state is a dismal failure.

Woah there fella...you wouldn't want anyone to have to REALLY work for their assistance....do you? That kind of thinking is dangerous.
