Is there any way of knowing if another user is scanning your

no there isn't an alert. if there was then we'd know when the RIAA and others were looking at what we own. unfortunately this doesn't exist:mellow
btw i think they acutally get the list of files u have by obtaining the list that u send to ur supernode when u logged on, and from then on when it is updated.

Mmmh, would be a nice feature... but you can still see if they're doing that. If you see 1 user downloading like 3 or more files from you, you know he's been searching you....

Oh heck.... I had some user download 8 songs from me at the same time, so I know he searched my files.

The reason I asked this question is a friend who is a newsbie
asked me what this black line across his screen was.
He said that when he was downloaded files a black line would appear across his screen. Not sure uploaded or downloading
files.
Anyway he said that the movement was at first slow and then a later faster probing.
The new user did not know about the speed up at all unless he somehow activated it acidentally. Don't think so.
I thought that this might be another user looking though his
shared folder.
Actually if you use this feature it is rather amazing and frightening how you can check up on someone's files and
downloading (if not deleted or moved elsewhere) habits.
I will ask for a more detailed description !!!:devil

heh heh... when I see a user (like last night) uploading 8 Chilli Peppers tracks (ripped at 224) at once, I immediately go and see what they've got.. I figured this dude must have had high b/width, and with similar tastes etc.. it is often fruitful to go look at what the people who upload from you have themselves. This serves also as a check of what type of people are getting your stuff.. If they have a lot to share, I may go get a similar number off them just for the hell of it, but usually, if they share, I will send a message and encourage them to look for more of my stuff they may like. We usually get into a bit of friendly chat out of that.. (I have 30 uploads set / unlimited b/w on cable and run pretty much 24x7).
While I do not pay any attention to a user's PL, I will often check what they're sharing and if they don't share, then unless I'm in a very good mood, they will get a polite message just before getting terminated...
PL is very misleading - when you frequently check for shared files on a user's comp as I do, you will be amazed how many of the Zero's are sharing really good material, and how often Deitys and Gods etc.. are sharing nothing or very little...
One thing with Zeros, unfortunately, is that you have a higher chance they're running dialup, and even though
I can stay online permanently if required, they probably have to cut off before too long.. (session limits etc..), so even if I do want to grab sommit from them, I'm probably better off looking elsewhere..
Once I got a quick message back from one of the dudes I was about to kill off, explaining how he was starting up a collection etc.. and he liked my stuff yada yada... so we finished up chatting quite a bit and I helped him get about 150 good qual mp3's to start his collcetion...

A question. I know how to search for more files on a searched user's shared folder.
However how do you search out a user with their e-mail address?
How can you tell if they are sharing or not ?
thanks :tilted
