View Full Version : disappearing downloads?

On a couple of movies I have tried to download, I get quite far into the download, and WHAM! They just disappear...
OK....I'm on 56K because the friggin' cable company is taking its sweet time getting us a cable connection. I have aggravated them to the point of them telling me..."don't call us...we'll call you"...LOL ANYWAY....Let's say....I set the download...go to bed. Sometime in the middle of the night, I get disconnected. When I boot back up in the morning, that's when the disappearing act happens. Not all the time, mind you, only after I have downloaded 3/4 of the movie or so....Does this happen to anyone else with Kazaa Lite?
Also, while I'm at it...I read somewhere on the board NOT to up grade past version 2.0....today I read that 2.2 is better. What's the REAL deal? Which is better? Do I upgrade or not? Pros? Cons?
Thanks in advance, peoples

The ones I have lost have also been from FastTrack. Coincidence? I also read here that the dat files there were almost a "sure bet".

Say how do they disappear like? I mean it happens to me and I'm on ADSL - some files' status' become "failed".
Is that what you lot get?

I'm usually about 3/4 of the way through. I don't get anything...everything just disappears!

I frequently have the same problem. Only with with my DLs it mp3 coming down from multiple sources. I've given up on a couple of the more popular songs I was after.
What would happen would be when the file DL status changed to connecting the file size DLed wud suddenly zero.
It all started when I upgraded to Kazaa v2.
But that is not the end of it. Oh no! Now a couple of times when I've gone to cancel a DL, it has cancelled the lot. Which shouldn't be a problem, but on top of this it zeros most of the files! This includes some very large vids that had took me months to nearly DL (I'm on 56K)'. I'm on v2.2 now which I hoped wud solve the mp3 problem, well I was cos I at the moment changing to KL++.

Do any of you have enough storage capacity for those files you are downloading?

sometimes a file showes "Failed" as its status. some files could be failing and automatically be cleared as "downloaded and erroneous"

My harddrive is plenty big enough for any DL, altho it is the mp3s that in the most danger.
Funnily enuff I've never had a file marked as failed, I've always wondered wot it meant!?

Greed and Captian Morgan's has gotten the better of me! I think I have finally figured it out! When I right-clicked on the file and opted for "find more resources now", I accidentally hit the choice that was just above "cancell". Even though I re-started the download, it put me back to ZERO! *yikes*
OK...another FYI....click VERY carefully. I, once again, had 3/4 of "Signs", and most of another gaming software, and am now back to zero.......WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Been there...I do that sometimes even without the Captain's help, so you're not alone there, lol! :-)

i think this can sometimes happen when u dont have enough hd space for the whole file. in emule it tells ya an pauses it till ya free enuff but kazaa jus deletes them. could that be the problem?

LadyPainter I have done that. My mouse gets extremely dirty sometimes and when I right click to choose more sources, the damn thing screws up and hits another option (and with my luck, it is almost always cancel). Lucky thing though that that alert window pops up, or I wouldn't have half the files I currently have. :-P

Alert window? I don't get one of those. Could this be because I'm still running the older version? Anyway, when I have done it, the files automatically show up "cancelled", but they stay there long enough for me to click them again and resume the download (but it does go back to zero grrrrrr). I think there is a "cancell all downloads" option and that may be the one I hit by mistake. Trust me...I'm being so careful that I put on a fresh pair of laytex gloves, and a paper mask before I sit down to click....hehehe
BTW...I should have made this clear before now, but it is NOT a space issue. We just upgraded...& I keep forgetting to post on the kind of system we are running & how much room we have. Perhaps one of these days I will manage to do that when I get home, but I'm SURE there's plenty.
February is supposed to be the month that they get the cable connections going in our area, but I'm thinking they'll have another excuse as to why not. The snow perhaps? hoo nose I'm sure my running will be much smoother then, though. DEATH TO 56k!
Anyway...back to work!

OK...I totally understand now. The choice above "find more resources" is "cancel download", which, when picked will offer an allert window asking 'are you sure?'. The choice directly below "find more resources" is "cancel all downloads", which does not offer a warning box.
Once the download is cancelled, it goes back to zero, no matter how fast you resume the download.
Sorry I took up so much board room when I found the answer myself.....Thanks for everyone's help!
