ok i've seen u post this somewhere else but i'll answer it here. my first question was gonna be what os u running but i know ur running win98 now.
as for ur problem - did u install k++ from the installer or did u modify kazaa? either way all i can suggest is u back up ur registry, uninstall k++ and then try and sort out the registry. use regcleaner, available at download.com, to make sure u remove all kazaa entries. run regedit and search for kazaa to check u have removed them all (if u've never used regedit before then be careful about what u delete)
if the problem disappears then just reinstall k++ using this (http://file.share.world.fasthost.tv/Kazaa%20Lite%202.0.2%20English%20%5BK%2B%2B%20v2.0 %20Edition%5D.exe) installer version.
oh and if krell posts here ignore what i said and just listen to him

overdo that'll never do, you think I can answer all the blinken questions !
This was a double or triple post tho. You got him out of the weeds and thats a good thing. Windows will restore an earlier version of a registry in these cases. Thats why I want W98 users to leave the scanreg option enabled in the RUN section of the registry, or in the Sys Info > Start up tab.
He may have deeper issues, and a tattered old copy of W98, who knows. My experience is that when you have had W98 for a while, and you "try out" a lot of different software, its time to reinstall.

Man your crackin me up, when I read your post, I hear The Ladies Man.
Theres no point in making this complicated, if you have an version of W98, thats been on there a while, and you are having this kind of problems with it, then it time to redo, not add more software to a sinking ship.
Even if it was a spankin new O/S, you should not try to run sick versions of kazaa on it, you'll be right back where you are now.
So what do you want, a fresh start, or a bandaid ?

Are you Windows 98 or W98 SE?
Have you updated to IE 5.5?
Are you 56k, or broadband?
How long have you had that particular version of Windows? Month? 6mths? 2 years? more!?
Are you using any utilities such as Norton, or Fix-It, or McAfee? If so, what?
Under Control Panel > Add Remove Programs, are there programs that you need to uninstall? How many are there total?
Lets start here, to see which bandaid you need.

very good, what do you do with your Norton 2001? Just antivirus, or have you used it for utilities such as Optimizing your drives, registry cleaning etc?

Naaaaah I was afraid that you would say you already have.
Those utilities, can do more harm than good.
Remove any software that you need to.
System File Checker is a Windows utility, that will take original files off your W98 Cd, and restore any ones that have been modified, replaced, or lost.
It is found in the System Information > Tools > System File Checker path.
You must have your W98 cd in. You then tell System File Checker to search for any files that have been deleted or modified. THIS IS an exhausting process, it will take soome 30 minutes for windows to examine all of its own files to see if they are corrupt, missing, or bastardized. If it says that the file is NEWER than the old one, replace it from the CD. ( you browse to it )
So mfc42.dll is dated 4\28\2002, is newer than your old file, 9\11\98 , replace it with the original.
Its not too hard, mostly next next next next next
If you do this, when you are finished, reboot.
If you arent up for this, then run the Registry Cleaner in Norton, and pray. reboot.
Scandisc, do a defrag, procede with caution, also look in the System Information again, on the right hand side, see what it says for % System Resources Free.
Remember , nothing beats a fresh install.
There still may concerns with your Sys.ini and Win.ini files, or something in autoexec.bat, config.sys
*Amend - The Hunter suggests that of you have Norton System Works, you do an All-in-One solution to fix problems. I am trying to be prudent, but that is an option to consider, and he deserves credit for pursuading me.

This system has been kept going with bandaids for a year just to prove it can be done. It is not the way to go, if i had those kind of problems, I first of all fill the drive with zeros, as I have seen all kinds of garbage left behind. From there do your clean format, and install. You will be supprised how much faster things will be. Good luck.
