I'm curious to see what people think is the best client across the Gnutella landscape. Rate on:
Ease of Connection
Average Download Speed
Availability of Rare files
Stability/Resource use

Hmmmm....good question. And tough. I've had good experiences with Xolox, Bearshare & Limewire (although I hate Java). Hmmm...
» Xolox - Fast as hell! Clean program. Had some problems with connecting, but nothing to serious.
» Bearshare - Never had a technical problem. GUI is fine...clean and fairly easy to use. Never had a problem connecting. Download speeds were average.
» Limewire - Awesome GUI. Great technology (ultrapeers). Alas...I really hate Java. No problems connecting and downloads speeds are stellar.

Gnucleus is your far better choice, just use it some and you'll see why. Much better connectivity than the others, and EXCELLENT speed.

Hmm...
They use ALL the same net, the most of them use the same hostcachers and the speed is also the same (if they have multi-source-downloads)!
The reason that the speed is the SAME is, no client can assure you a free download slot! BUT Xolox has the ability to share partials, you have more sources to download from this increases the speed!
I see only a difference in the design, some features and third party stuff!
There is NO best client, only a good combination of differents nets!
I use:
eDonkey
Kazaa lite
Gnutella (various clients)
Song Spy
I never had problems to get my files! :fire

Well I understand the idea of gnutella being one network that many different clients access.
But experience has shown me that connecting to say bearshare and doing a search, finding limited pickings and than doing same search on limewire. (both connected at same time) I get more hits/ Not that limewire is better. I do think most gnutella clients are ok. But it is almost like throwing the dice when you connect and do a search.
I have had great success with xolox and then sometimes not! I think blubster is most consistant for speed, but it has some kind of memory hog spasms and when I am multi-tasking that is a bother.
AudioGalaxy is way the best for finding hard to find music files.
Kazaalite and Limewire seem to be the more consistent and better running file sharing clients for me at this time.

LimeWire gets my vote. In my testing, i get more results with it that with BearShare. It uses more RAM, but less CPU for me.
XOLOX was decent. a little simple. I do love partial downloads though.
Gnucleus: free, open. I like that. I found it harder to connect with than LimeWire. hashes are cool
Hashes and partial downloads are coming to LimeWire, so when they do, it will really get my vote. Of course, it also gets my vote for other reasons
