Hello all, and thank you in adveance for your help,
I am sure this will sound very silly to all you experienced users but here is the thing....We are new to this downloading, uploading thing... We use kazaalite and have sucessfully downloaded many different files. My question is this... The files are immediately up for "sharing" and i am wondering if when people are uploading various files from us, does it interfere with the speed in which we download. We are trying to download numerous (10-15) files at one time and we notice that the speed can be at times 0.04kbs!!! Is this our computer? (we have quite a fast system (as far as i know) a dell dimension 4, and i am wondering are we trying to download too much at one time, or does it have to do with people uploading. Also, is there any way of downloading faster (apart from a better computer!!) We have been downloading one movie that is about 715,000 in size and it has taken us more than one week!!!!!!! Is this normal? Any help or tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Andie and Jaska

Well can I start by saying I don't know any two people that are the one member on Zeropaid, quite interesting hearing you say we, lol.

Ok, here is some quick advice

Don't download many files at the same time, 3 at once max

You can speed up downloads by getting a better internet connection if you have a dial-up 56k modem best your gonna get is about 6kbs (thats when you are only downloading one file, it reduces the more files you have)

Get DietK if you don't already have it. It has an Accelarator and other useful features

Finally, uploads do slow up you download speed and unless you have a broadband connect only let people upload small files.

Hope you enjoy the forum, and welcome!

the most i ever got when i had dialup was about 3kbps from kazaalite.

the speed of ur comp does NOT make a difference.

it IS normal for a 715mb movie to take more than a week on dialup.

10-15 is WAY too many! as TFoS_Fan said, 3 is about as many as ur connection will handle.

if u want faster downloads ull need broadband internet. if ur in the uk u have numerous choices:

Cable: two providers, ntl and telewest. without a tv + phone package, £29.99 a month for 600kbps. (more than 10 times ur current speed). with tv and phone, £24.99. OR 1mbps (1000kbps) £34.99 a month. £75 installation, but its free until february i think.

ADSL: numerous providers, the biggest are freeserve and bt openworld. £27.99 a month, 512kbps. u must have a bt phone line. the initial pack is £85. if you have sky tv u get the pack free.

Satellite: dont no who does it, but its £400 installation then £15 a month. its either 1.5mbps or 15mbps (big diff!), ill find out. however, to send emails etc ull need another connection as well as u can only download with satellite.

I would recommend a high speed broadband connection. If you were to go high speed you could download that movie in about a hour or so. Its relatively inexpensive when you think about it. It costs 39.95 for cable where I live, if I was to say , download music for a straight 24 hour period I would have roughly 1800 songs. Now, on a standard 56K dial-up connection (AOL, MSN, juno, earthlink, etc..which are about $20.00) I would have only been able to sucessfully retrieve mabey 27-35 songs in that same 24 hour time frame. So for the extra $20 bucks per month you can get a whole helluva lot more accomplished in one hour on a Broadband connection than in one lousy crappy, frustrating, SLOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW, hour on A.O. Hell. Goodluck, have fun, and screw the RIAA as hard as you humanly can.

when i used the school t1, i got speeds of 100KB/s with multiple sources

any single source download will probably be 3 or less because upload is capped almost everywhere (at 12/s where i am), and most people that upload are doing so to more than 1 person at any given time, so you'll only get a part of that 12

Thanks to all of you that replied! We are definetly learning "something"... but one more question (probably not!) so do those of you that messaged back with suggestions about our dialup... we have a wireless system and are located in the caribbean. Any suggestions on quick download services for a wireless????
Thanks so much
