I ran WinMX 3.22 for a long time on my XP home edition without a glitch. During that period of time I was connected to Roadrunner via a USB cable modem.

Recently I installed a Netgear FM114P wireless home network and a NIC PCI card
Now whenever I try to connect to WinMX OpenNap servers it begins to freeze my system up for a about 15-20 seconds then it unfreezes for about 5-7 seconds until I close WinMX. Occaisonally I get a blue screen but it come and goes so fast into a reboot that I can't read the error.

I have tried uninstalling WinMX, deleting the program folder, cleaning out the old registry files and then re-installing with no success.

My system is built around an ASUS A7V-266e and I am tunning a T-Bird 1400/266 with 256 MB DDR.

Any help resolving this issue will be greatly appreciated

Hello turbines,

First of all, please dont uninstall any more apps, or do anything reactive. If you change things faster than we can find out about them, it will be more problems created.

Pease do this, Right click on My Computer, and go to Properties.

Then click Advanced > Start up and recovery > Settings.

Deselect > Automatically Restart.

Next things to do, Launch Administrative Tools, > Event Viewer.

Right Click on Application, Security and System, and clear the logs, do not save the info.

And lastly, Launch Winmx, set it to use a SECONDARY connection.

Reboot, try it again under these conditions. I want to know if:
A) it crashes again.
B) What if anything is written in the logs under Event Viewer.

Watch it closely, take it slowly,

cheers

Thank you for your quick response. I followed your recommendations regarding the disabling the automatic restart and clearing the events logs.

I believe I have put my finger on the problem. I think it was a result of making some TCP/IP parameter adjustments to the registry as recommended at:

http://www.speedguide.net/Cable_modems/cable_reg_win2k.shtml

Restoring those settings to the default seems to have corrected the problem.

Thanks again

Mmmm Hmmm . . . . . .

You just spoke volumes my friend.

XP is already properly configured, I have yet to be able to gain improvement in this O/S with reg hacks. I still use that site tho, and DSL Reports to benchmark.

Lets us know if theres anything further,

cheers
