You can do a few things :
- Make sure your SpeedUp utility is setup correctly.
- Uninstall KaZaA Lite and Install K++ version 2.0.0.
K++ allows you to download from up to 40 users at a time and enhances the search button so you can search more than one time.
I doubt with either of these options you will see any speeds close to one meg a second. It is possible for people who have extremely fast connections (T3).
This explains it :

And links to other K++ threads :

This should help.

Kazaa doesnt really go that fast. unless you got a T1 and you are downloading from another T1
But winMX (Before that new queuing thing) I was able to hit 600k/second with my cable connection

T1 is fast... but I don't think you really need it. It isn't really worth the cost if you ask me... so what if you have to wait a few hours longer for downloading a movie? I think it just gives you a kick when you see it downloading that fast, but that's it basically....
and btw, do you have a downloading limit with T1 or something?

1500/1500
only 10000$ us to install, and 800 bucks a month to keep
doesn't everyone have one?
(i have 768/128, 50 bucks a month, good enough for me)

yeahm and thats just T1
t3 is a hell of alot faster... 44mb/s if i remember right. and hey, it'll only set you back abouy 7 big ones a month. and btw, t3 has been out for a long time. a few years if im not mistaken.
either way... i'll stick with my cable. its supposed to be 256/256 but its more like 1.5mb/800kb when i test my connection on places like the bandwidth place i am constantly hovering above T1 and my parents pay like $70 a mont for internet, tv, phone, etc....

the difference between t1 and cable is t1 is guaranteed to be 1500/1500
like wonderboy said, his only guarantees 256/256, mine makes no guarantees whatsoever
remember the most important thing--whenever you download, someone else is uploading, and you have no real control over their speed--most people have dialup or an upload cap at 128 or 256, so unless you multisource or download lots of files simultaneously, you will (almost) never see the bandwidth maxed out on a single file

This chart is correct in 99% of cases, and the description of service is good, just slightly dated.
http://www.library.on.ca/helpdesk/Internet/connect.html
I have cable service, I always benchmark as below
DSLREPORTS . . . just now
Your download speed : 1721933 bps, or 1721 kbps.
A 210.1 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 223914 bps, or 223 kbps.
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!
Use this chart to compare megabits to mage bytes etc, enter a # like mine above, then observe the different fields.
http://www.convert-me.com/en/convert/computer
(use for other conversions too)
or use calculator
1721933 \ 1024= \ 1024= 1.642 MBs
Any of this is only as good as the source that you download from.

So is mine, but it doesnt help me any, I could have a 1mb a sec card, and wouldnt notice a difference in speed, it depends on your ISP's bandwidth and so many other factors
How fast can you download from a website, say, www.winzip.com , that is about the top you will see on file sharing (you'll see less than a web site typicly, but not much less)

phalkon30 . . . I just want to add a larger sized file option. .
Use mirror 1 and watch your speed, also, for you XP users, launch Task mgr, and Networking, watch it. You will see that you download at about 1\100th what your network card will do.
http://www.tweaktown.com/document.php?dType=guide&dId=350&dPage=2
Also, while you are Dl this, be ready to use dslreports.com bandwidth test
http://www.dslreports.com/stest?loc=2
run them both at the same time to MAX out your connection. If you have Sygate Personal Firewall, use it to monitor your speed too.

Look in Krell's post above. There's a link to dslreports. Try it. It will clock your download/upload speed.

rrr, first try the dslreports link above.
The try the whole thing.
The Hunter, I have never ever heard of that, but if you want to send me stuff direct transfer, bring it on!

Did you read Krells post? the second link refers you to a site to test your bandwidth ( http://www.dslreports.com/stest?loc=2 )
Here are my results:
2003-01-04 17:42:16 EST: 746 / 124
Your download speed : 746341 bps, or 746 kbps.
A 91.1 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 124863 bps, or 124 kbps.
I want a better upload (damn charter...they limit ours, the base cable for $50 a month is 256/128!!!!)

Just keep doing that at different times of the day, to get a feel for how overloaded your cable service is. Eventually you will see a trend. Now give me a list of your shit, cuz you have great upload speed and I plan to take advantage of it!

anyone know how effective download accelerators such as DAP really are? i use DAP right now, and it will occasionally go over 300KB/s, but i dont know weather to trust it since i barely get 175KB/s regularly and about the same for p2p. i know it is making some difference, but wether it is truely doubling my dld speeds is up for debate.

The tests that I have read on these programs would appear to help those on phone lines, and mostly with loading web pages faster.

2003-01-06 18:28:48 EST: 2942 / 965

A 359.2 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 965950 bps, or 965 kbps.
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!
hmm....i thought optomum online was supposed to be capping upload bandwidth?

Hunter, a friendly suggestion, save your pictures in JPEG format next time, it makes the files MUCH MUCH smaller in size, and allows you to give larger dimentions
Wonderboy, I use DAP right now, it deffinately helps at some sites, and slows me down at others, for now, I'll keep it
The reason it can work, is some servers cap uploads to users, and open only a few slots (similar to P2P apps), DAP and other programs like it make multiple requests to the server, in effect, making the server think you are multiple computers, giving you more and more pieces of the bandwidth pie (up to your max, or the servers max)
They also work by searching for mirrors, if one mirrors server is bogged down, it can use some of that download, plus go from another, just like P2P apps use multi source downloading
It all depends on the site (which btw, they don't improve surfing speed at all, just downloads)
