House Dems, labor, battle plan to tax benefits

More than half of the Democrats in the House have signed on to a letter denouncing a key element of the Senate Finance Committee’s health care legislation as labor unions draw a line in the sand on paying for reform.

The Democrats are attacking a plan to finance expanded health care by taxing expensive health insurance plans. The plan, sometimes cast as a tax on “Cadillac” plans, would in fact include the health care plans of many public employees and union members and has triggered a revolt from Obama’s labor supporters and their many allies on the Hill.

The letter from 154 House Democrats to Speaker Nancy Pelosi urges her “to reject proposals to enact an excise tax on high-cost insurance plans that could be potentially passed on to middle-class families.”

“This is not an obscure detail of health care reform,” said Connecticut Rep. Joe Courtney, who drafted the letter. “Taxing health benefits was explicitly debated in the campaign by presidential candidates and people running for Congress.”

The Heritage Foundation has come up with a list of 50 examples of government waste.

Here’s a few goodie’s just to get you started:

Auditors discovered that 900,000 of the 2.5 million recipients of emergency Katrina assistance provided false names, addresses, or Social Security numbers or submitted multiple applications.

Washington will spend $2.6 million training Chinese prostitutes to drink more responsibly on the job.

The Federal Government owns more than 50,000 vacant homes.

The refusal of many federal employees to fly coach costs taxpayers $146 million annually in flight upgrades.

Congress recently gave Alaska Airlines $500,000 to paint a Chinook salmon on a Boeing 737.

Conveniently the Obamacare plan hides the True Cost of Health Care Reform with 3 years of Taxes before any Benefits start flowing at all.

It Offers Medicare Cuts and Tax Increases First then Benefits Later?

Sixty years is how long Democrats say they've been pushing for legislation that provides health care access for all Americans, so what’s the big rush all of a sudden?.......:aargh4:

They'll still have to wait until 2013 anothr 3 years, even if Obama got a bill to sign this year or the next.

But “Cuts in Medicare” and a sizable chunk of the “Tax Increases” to pay for the overhaul kick in immediately? Ahh we’re beginning to catch on here.

The number of uninsured will stay stuck on this made up number of 50 million until federal tax credits start flowing -- after the next presidential election....:shhh:

This would be a full three years before they could start handing out these goodies, how incomvienent that would be for them, mid-term elections are next year.

Of course they are just now getting it through their thick sculls that, Obama wont be around after the next Presidential Election and a great number of Democrats will also be hitting the pavement next year; or will they listen to the voters?

Three years is a long time to wait, opponents could capitalize on misgivings about the complex legislation to undo what would be a signature achievement for Obama.

This “Signature Achievement by the One and only Obama” could possibly be undone if they don’t hold unto this over whelming power they have?.........:yikes:

Could these constant stalemates not be because of Tea-Bagging Racists or the Knuckle Dragging Neanderthal Republicans after all?

Could it be that they know this complex legislation they’re trying to ram down our throats and up the rectums of every American isn’t the best approach?

I’ll watch for some to try to make yet more “Change” before its said and done, they know elections are coming, or are they that smart?
