I have only recently begun using IRC. My motivation was getting South Park Episodes. I could download from www.spepisodes.com, but that option was getting slow. They have a tutorial on how to do it through IRC. Trillian has an IRC option. I followed the tutorial and got what I wanted and more. I like IRCs DOS feel because me and DOS go way back. If I hadn't had the tutorial to help me figure it out though I wouldn't be using IRC. It would have been too complicated for me to try and get started.

I'm not a "L337" Mirc user or anything but I use mirc mostly for really specific files that are a pain in the ass to get on p2p networks such as when I was collecting Married...with children episodes and other tv series that I needed specific eps. I don't however use the xdcc channels too much anymore, ever since packetnews and mydownloader brought in all the newbs asking their dumbass questions like "how do I download?" that whole scene has kind of gone downhill. But for specific content you can't beat mirc. Now if only Dalnet would take all the ddos's as a hint and die already :P

I used to use it but it was to much hassle why bother when most of the stuff you can get from p2p also 2 many hackers on mIRC... :fire

Why bother? Hmmm....lets see....cuz most of the stuff you so easily download off a P2P app was created and distributed on IRC first!
Longer wait times on getting new content is why it's worth while to bother.

I and IRC, for the last year, were one and the same.. all I did was script, chat, and download from it and explore every server imaginable.. and I can finally say I am a bit burned out. While I don't spend 8+ hours a day on it like I used to, I still spend a fair amount of time on it (roughly 2 or 3 hours a day, 3 days a week). And as our favorite computergenious pointed out, irc.p2pchat.net is the place to go (although DALnet is THE place to go for warez).
Maybe I can put together a tutorial for anyone here at ZP who is willing to try it out. There are so many on the 'net today that it might be a waste of time.

that would be cool cause most of the tutorials written about IRC miss out half the important stuff and put in twice as much garbage. just my opinion of course.
