I would like to find a site that allows users to upload their music like youtube does with video's. I found a CD with a Song I did 15 years ago in some of my stuff and I would like to share it with you guys so you could hear what I sounded like as a younger man.
I recorded the song in 1994 at the Memphis State recording studio as a favor to a friend who needed to use all his allotted studio time. To get an A in that part of his studies he had to use up all his studio time or it would hurt his grade. I wrote this song and headed over to Memphis state. I had just broke up with a long time love so the song is a little corny but its actually better than I remembered.
I thought it was awful at the time but my taste is music has changed over the years. The song stretched my musical abilities at the time because I had only been playing guitar a few months and I had hoped someone else would come along after me and re-do the guitar track but for some reason he never got anyone in the studio to do that.
The night I was there we did most of the tracks used and at the last minute we found a guy to play the drums although he did not usually play the drums. It was sort of lucky the way things popped together. We would step out back of the studio from time to time and smoke a joint and then go back in and try to come up with another part. I was extremely intimidated because there were students around that really had talent. I felt VERY inferior that night. My friend made things worse for me because when we recorded the vocals he wanted to try this new mic they had just got. The mic stuck onto the glass and used the glass as a way to record the vibrations. This meant I had to stand up in front of the glass and sing while everyone looked at me! I was very, VERY shy back then too and you can hear it in my voice, especially at the first. I refused to do a second take though and that is my fault. It could have been done much better and I would have at least liked to have double tracked the vocals. I left that night, at about 3AM, without ever hearing the mix down.
He sent my the CD a few weeks later. In 94 having your own CD was a BIG DEAL because not just everyone could make their own. I forget how much he told me their unit cost them back then but it was expensive as I recall. I got the CD and let a few people hear it and then I packed it away all these years. Not until today have I listened to it since 1995. The Properties of the CD say it was made n December 31, 1994.
I would like to share this tiny bit of my youth with you guys. Its not much but I now look back with fond memories of my night getting high and hammering out a hit song at Memphis State University! One thing though, I seem to remember my friend telling me any song I recorded there became the property on the university. I hope that is not the case but then again its not like I am gonna get a call to have my song placed in the next summer teen movie.
Anyone with a clue as to where I can upload this thing please post! If not I will have to make a video to go along with it and I am not that motivated today...
