You might know I have been complaining that FastTrack clients have been making my computer slow when I'm on the internet and downloading at the same time.
Now I have a big problem. Every program is doing it!!! I have 56k and when I'm downloading a song it takes for ever to surf the internet. Only crappy programs like Morpheus and Ares work fine.
Please people help me! I don't want to use Morpheus for the rest of my life.

your COMPUTER isnt slow when you are on p2p, your internet connection is. so, the only thingthat will work for you- excluding doing oe or the other and not both at once- is to get a cable or dsl connection.

My computer runs fine when I'm not downloading music. I think it might be something with the bandwidth. I know its not all my connection's fault becouse my computer used to run fine until now. So I'm thinking there could be a program on my computer that is hoging all my Bandwidth.

I know I need Cable (We don't get DSL in my town) But I think it is $49.99 a month. I just have this computer. I'm lucky I can even use it.

well $50 a month is not too much I guess... In Belgium it costs about the same. I think nobody can help you, because you just need a faster connection. When I was on 56k and downloading music I couldn't surf the web too. Sometimes even now on Dsl when I'm downloading at my max speed of 115kb/s I can't surf and download at the same time. But what do you mean by: my computer becomes slow? Do you mean internet traffic is slow? Or do you mean your cpu has to do a lot of work and acceses your hard-drive a lot? If you mean the second one, Do a format c: or something. It might help.

Try running a program called Spybot S&D, get it at http://security.kolla.de

could you have gotten gator by installing the REGULAR version of imesh or kazaa?

btw, your bandwidht and your connection are basicly the same thing, if one is slow, the other is to, downloading anything while surfing the net is going to slow you down, maybe one of those "crappy" programs reserves some bandwidth for your surfing habits, if you use Imesh, limit your downloading bandwidht to 2.5k or so, see if that helps any

One other thing, if you upload, it will slow you down considerably

btw, GIVE ME BACK MY AVATAR! :)

what other non-fasttrack clients are you using?

The strange thing about this is, This just started. When I first started downloading I could do both. Now it takes 3mins to get to each page.

Sockfulloflove: I use Shareaza,Ares,Blubster,Soulseek.
Now it looks like I'm going to have to use Morpheus.:mellow

Phalkon30: I downloaded Normal Imesh 2 weeks ago. But then my computer started getting slow. So I uninstalled it.

Maartendc: It makes my internet traffic slow

if you're facing this prob, try defraging w/ the swap file disable. After its finished, reenable it. Or even better, make a separate partition for the downloads. I recommend using PartitionMagic.

What ever you do, don't format drive c: .

Umm, dude, if you un-install Imesh, it leaves gator and all the other spyware that comes with it....I think you found your problem, gator is reporting back to base and downloading in the background, it only runs when you go on the net

I would venture to guess, if you did the three finger salute, you would find the GAIN trickler running, kill it, and run spybot or adaware

Yodashady, youre computer isnt slow, your internet connection is. This is normal when you are on 56k and trying to download using p2p while browsing the internet.
You should pause your downloads if you want to browse the net, or get cable/adsl.

It really is that simple

Thanks Phalkon. I found something called Gator along time ago when I first used Adaware. I hope that works.

r_xq I have already been told that. I don't think that is the full reason.

Jeez......

It could only be a few things.....

1) Alotta people signed up with your ISP in the past few days/weeks and you're on the shit end of the stick, so you get crap downloads. (This is pretty much only if you've noticed slow down.)

2) Your phone lines have gotten a bit "worn", you may have problem areas on it (outside or in).

3) You were outta it and just didn't notice how long it was taking to load web pages..... ; P

If it's a hardware issue within the PC then maybe you're just working on a fragged system which may or may not be running shit loads of spyware.

Kinda odd considering you said Morpheus worked fine while Kazaa and similar FT clients dragged you down. The new Morpheus is a fuckin' bandwidth hog....

Could be port capping....but that would be kinda pointless on dial up....lmfao
