OK im a complete novice to file sharing and am only a casual user of my PC-excel spreads, internet etc. However, I want to download rock music and have been told that Kazalite is just what I need. Is this the case and if so how do I go about getting it, is there a dummies guide anywhere? Thanks for any help you can give me guys.

Welcome fto

Archived in this site is a TON of information. There's seldom a question asked that hasnt been answered before. There's a an abundance of talent here too.

The forums are broken down by name, so, Kazaa related materials will be under Kazaa etc. Look around, and use the SEARCH feature using key words.

You are on the tip of a big new iceberg. Downloading, sharing your files, and playing the media you download on your computer, and burning to CD. Stick with it, and you will master all of the above, and more.

First things first, how bout this week, read the forums, get a feel for what to use, then, install one program, and learn to use it.

If you need help, ask and be patient.

cheers

This place rocks indeed. Bit I figure you can easily get lost of your new. There so much information.. and you don't know where to look first. I think you should start with the program kazaa lite. It's easy to use and you can find a lot of files with it...

Good luck!

What are advantages/disadvantages for music files only:

kazaa lite++2.02
VS.

winmx

New to P2P and looking for a "dummies" guide also.

I haven't tried Blubster yet, but the advantage of Winmx over kazaa is that you can find better quality songs. A lot of files on Winmx are 320k, while a lot of files on kazaa are 128k... But kazaa haes more users, so it has more files.

Winmx 320k file is better quality but takes longer to download.
How long to download 320k vs. 128k over cable modem?

on how long to download a 320kbs file over 128kb cable modem it depends on the file size. u'll download at approx 10k/s max, so u'll take 100 secs for 1 Meg 1000 secs for 10 Megs etc. ur looking at about 17mins for a 10meg file.

about the original post, i recommend the new k++ (More details can be found here) (http://www.zeropaid.com/bbs/showthread.php?postid=44800#post44800) and yes u can find mp3s with 192-320 kbs, u just gotta know how to find them.

The complete novice has managed to download Kazza lite thanks all the help from you guys. I have one more question though, is it possible to download just a complete album without getting either all songs by an artist or all songs on an album repeated many times?

Thats an unknown, yes it is possible, but who knows ahead of time really?

FTO, the easiest way to download full albums from KaZaA lite ( I do this all the time) Go to your favorite Website that sells albums Amazon.com for example, (Can someone give some good sites to go to for album listings please?) And then copy and paste the title into the search area for Audio, I usually put Artist name first
(Example) Alan Parsons Project_Pipeline I seperate artist name and song title by using an underscore, a "dash" also works (Alan Parsons Project - Pipeline)And do that for each song on the album. If that does not yield enough results, go to Audio>more search options, And put in Artist name Album Title, then put in nae of song. Do not allow some who may have a "thing" against KaZaA tell you that you cannot download full albums from kazaa, it is fairly easy to do, and with a little trial and error you wil find the best technique that works for you.

GOOD LUCK, and if you need any further help, do not hesitate to ask me , or anyone else on the forum, we will be glad to assist.

BEST regards,
Psilaxs

Just to clarify, I want blowing that person off, the qualifying statement was
without getting either all songs by an artist or all songs on an album repeated many times

So in as much as I have many albums, I cant answer that.

Psilaxs is one here that I appreciate him giving straight answers. His explaination is quite sufficient to find a certain album.

I think I get the drift that its difficult to download just one album i.e one version of each song, anyway I will work on this.
As I said Im a complete bozo but am learning. What I have not worked out how to do is to transfer the downloaded song to my media player. I have to do this to burn ot dont I?

I dont see Psilaxs signed on, so I will add 2 cents. Many of the album rips are in a zip file. (you dont take your clothes to the airport individually, you put them in a suitcase)
You should extract them out to a folder. I make a folder for each group or artist.

The Best of Elvis.zip then gets extracted to a folder called "Elvis"

You may then delete the zip file you downloaded, or save it, your choice.

The Mp3s that are now in the "Elvis" folder can be played with Media PLayer etc. You either click on them, or open the player, go to File > browse to them, select them, then OK.

A lot of this will be intuitive, and no amount of explanation replaces good old fashioned hands on experience.
