avi no sound??

I just got 2 *.avi files and they don't seem to have any sound when I play them. I've tried windvd nvdvd and power dvd as well and wmp 9. I think it is supost to have ac3... My current setup is a soundblaster audigy 1 with 4.1 speakers. And I have played other *.avi files with no problems. Anyhelp would be a welcome.

its under the downloads and then media players. it has built in support for ac3.

it was encoded using an older codec getting the nimo codec pack and install all the verisons of divx that it has fixes it.

I installed the nimo pack and now when ever I start any of my players with that *.avi moive first all I see its a screwy looking green screen and no sound then the player crashes. and this is the same no matter what player I use???????

That verison you have must have a buggy codec get a older one uninstall it. I use verison 5 of the nimo codec pack and that works fine.

Ok I uninstalled the old nimo and installed the newest nimo v5.xx and I'm back to where I was in the begining. I can see the video but I hear no sound. What am I missing here?

That's what your missing here Dopemine, knowledge.

The question is WHAT is it? What video codec . what audio codec?

How does one find out WHAT exact codec is needed, if a blanket install of Nimo doesnt work ?

The answer is, get one of these small utils to tell you EVERYTHING that you nned to know about that file, or any video file, ever.

Thanks Krell I did what you said and ran G spot and it says I don't have an audio codec: ac3 (0x2000) "Dolby Laboratories, Inc" just to let you know I do have the video codec which is: DivX 3 Low-Motion So the next question would be where do I get this codec?

I opened my Nimo 5.8 to see if it was in there, at least I thought it was.

Also Go to Doom9.org and click on download. Under the Filters section you'll find Audio Codecs for ac3. Simply download and follow the instructions in the zip file.

I examined the contents of this for you. Be sure to register the components. After you install these, I want for you to use the AVIcodec util, and then view ALL of your installed codecs, and save the results to a txt file on your desktop. Do this for both audio and video. I may have you email it to me.

Sorry its been awhile was partying and stuff. Happy New year to you guys... Anyway I installed the AC3 codec because I used gspot to check and for some reason nimo wasn't installing the ac3 codec... anyway the sound worked perfect for one movie (*.avi) and then when I loaded the next movie (*.avi ac3) the sound was kinda messed up I had to turn my volume up to full (and these al loud speakers) to hear the sound So I checked with gspot again and it says they are not installed??? gspot also said that is was using morgan switcher filter for sound.. Whatever that is? I even checked in the windows sound/media thing and its not listed their either. This is torture man. Its driving my nuts.

Install Nimo again, and deselect everything except the AC3 decoder under sound, just that ONE thing, try again.

morgan stream switcher is a utility to able to switch between audio streams (movie encoded with multiple languages), you'll see that under Nimo Codec Pack, just install that again!
