Hi, I thought I'd check out usenet due to my what.cd account being disabled due to inactivity.
UNfortunatly the free usenet binary reader that comes with my service (Newsrover) seems incapable of checking single part files for errors.
Every single flac album I have downloaded clicks, pops or skips.
Now, I know downloading rars would help solve this problem, trouble is, not many Flacs are packaged this way.
Please can someone reccomend a decent newsreader (With built in search) that I can aquire, that can check and redownload corrupt parts. (Ie, single flac files)
Edit: I'm off to delete 3 gigs of albums now.
Your help is appreciated.

If every single FLAC album you download clicks, pops, or skips, I would look at something other than the newsreader or source file as the problem.
Possibly a codec or player problem.
Do the files skip only when you play them on your computer?
Do the same files skip when you burn them to an audio CD and play them in a stereo?
Have you asked anyone else to download the files to see if they are also having the same problems?

HI Tic, thanks for the response.
I use a logitec squeezebox to play my files:
http://www.logitechsqueezebox.com/
All other files obtained from Torrent sources still play absolutely fine. I know that is not the problem.
The reason I'm suspected my Newsreader is because even when downloading split rar files, I often have to use par files to finish the extraction. (Quick par usually reports roughly 30 - 50% of the rars as corrupt)
EDIT: I'll try downloading the same files via grbbit (Which has single part error detection, but a shitty paid-for search function) whereas newsrover has great free search, but shitty error detection.
EDIT2: I think i've just found a workaround. I'm going to use Newsrover to search for my files, then create NZBs and import with grabbit. I'll let you know how I get on.
EDIT3: Grabbit seems fine so far.

I'm oldschool myself. I use Newsleecher as my reader which has a built in search but I don't use their subscription service I pull headers and also use www.binsearch.info for nzbs.
If you are doing a lot of split repairs then maybe your problem is not your reader but your provider?

Thanks for the help.
Switching Newsreaders has done it (4th song in across two previously corrupt albums) and all is bliss.
Fuck spoke too soon. Was just greeted to a loud crack.
Back to torrents for me I thnk.

Since you've ruled out newsreaders then it must be your news provider.

Try making sure you are getting scene releases as that helps a lot.
I've also known about QuickPar being fantastic for repairing downloads. Download the PAR files and see if anything needs repairing.
