Hi, I am having trouble with wmp 8..... when I try to open a file I get a window saying it has encountered a problem and needs to close. I noticed this happen right after installing in my pc nimo pack full install, ffdshow, nextgen ( pdivx player ) I don't know if this is the cause for it.
I use windows xp pro, 256memory, pentium 4, I have received help of one good friend but did not work, so I am hoping this can be read for as many people in the forums so I can gel help.
what would be the best thing to do?
Hope to hear some good advice
regards,
el_omega

had the same problem here, and it's happened on wmp 8 and wmp 9 and have no idea why, same exact prob though...
there are other, even better alternatives out there though, such as:
ace mega codecs pack

has worked for me flawlessly, so you just may have just as much luck!

no dealie it has nothing to do with any of that, as i said i had the same prob and i knew what i was doing! It's just an incompatability with something but with what i don't know.

Shit.. Maybe you should unistall Nimo codec pack and see if everything works fine. if it does do not install the codec pack.. if it doesn't, install it again and see what happens?

I still can play my files using quicktime, though some times it asks me to restore files that were associated before, blah, blah, I was thinking of unistalling nimo and do what crazymaniak suggested. I also thought of installing winamp and make it my default player,
I will just wait for more comments, hope to get more help

I had instructions all typed out, but it had to sit there for hours, till he emptied his mailbox.

He's not in that much trouble, Ive been there dozens of times.

WMP always battles it out for associations, thats why I advise people to install the codecs you need FIRST, not extra players.

He should be in the process if restructuring now.

No youre not, and quite right on this one too. However, when I recommend to someone, READ the directions, and dont install the things it says NOT to, well, what more can I do?

This is a classic example of less is more, and you can always go back and add just one component to it later.

I think the worst thing he can do, is to panic and try a whole bunch of stuff, and make the situation worse. Last I responded to him was to tear it all down, and start with the basics again.

*crosses fingers*

fixed it. Just did what Krell said, uninstall all that nimo pack ffdshow nextgen player, reboot my pc, opened up wmp and it started d/l the codecs itself, and in less than 20 secs, it just started playing my files. You guys are the best, special thanks to Krell, Crazymaniak, and I am not thanking Dealie, because he just kind of freaked out more than I did.
You guys are the best, I learned my lesson, I guess that next time I install nimo I just use the codecs needed, but of course I got my friend, that helped me out with this for some guidance.

LMAO!

el_omega - You get an A for effort, but a D- for tact

I cant blame you for being new, but maybe a tad impulsive. Another thing, you havent been here long enough to know who really has skills or not. In this particular case, you far underestimate Dealies experience in this matter.

One thing I would like to point out, to everyone, is that when you are asking for help, DONT take the shotgun approach. And, if someone has a course of action that they will back with their reputation, others should not jump in with their misguided opinions.

It just makes for confusion. We all mean well, but this is a BBS for christ's sake, it's difficult at best.

Having said that, lets all live and learn, learn and live.

EDIT ............................................

Note that this all started with his post about converting an avi to vcd, cuz he couldnt play it.

This is a compound issue, with a flowchart, that only a few of us are keeping in mind when we provide answers. Getting his codecs installed properly, making sure he has a player, and that they work, then learning to burn with Nero, are all part of the plan. So . . . when people jump in with answers to install additional software etc, that is not in keeping with a systematic plan for improvement.

Just a thought

Well I did not mean to be hard on nobody, what i tried to say was that Dealie just scared the heck from me saying that I was all messed up, and gave me no alternatives.
I don't never try to offend nobody, if I did as a good gentleman I always been I render my apologies to Dealie, and Krell thanks for everything.

Just wanted to let you know something for future reference, dealie has made MANY posts here, I'm sure he has posted about as many as I have (he just deletes old posts for personal reasons), he has a lot of good information, you just have to....coax it out of him....

glad to see you got it working, it is a common problem with a lot of people, so dont feel bad for asking (now just share what you know now with others to help them)

Yes, my stupidity is that I am new around here, so I could make mistakes as many newbies and probably as many as you have made, since you were no experts all the time.
That's what I am here for to learn and become as knowledgeable as you guys and to do the same you are doing helping other people, because the more help we can give out the less problems we have to deal with overall.
Dealie , I received your p/m and I will try to install those codecs you mentioned as soon as I need them and once again I never try to insult your knowledge.
Peace out everybody
