File error 004 , what'up?

sorry hon cant help.. in fact I came to post something similar. I'm getting something like 1 in 6 downloads failing as a File Mismatch (004). I may have seen this in the past once or twice but in the last two weeks its been happening constantly. I thought it was on my end and did a thorough defragging to no avail. Can anyone explain how to avoid the dreaded 004?

Does this problem happen when u are getting a file with an incredibly long filename, or with special characters in it (ie: / or @)? I had problems getting a file named in japanese/chinese, it had a massive filename and in the end I did a manual download (right click) and named it to a small filename and it seemed to work..

Don't know if this will help at all.....

yes and If you ae a big fan of adding the hash info back into the shorter filename (more important on larger dls bc its likely u will need to resume) i cover that at my site also.

forgive my eyesight, but i see 004 (zero,zero,four) not 404 (four,zero,four). But when you get my age you never can be sure.

If the question was regarding File error 4 (in WinMX) then what i said stands.

If it was 404 as in "Error 404: File Not Found" , This would be typical of a page that results in error on a webserver.

Vladd, I'm pretty familiar with your site having contributed an article. I thought you renounced ZP! Yeah I will try trims but its always a pain what with the requeing and I'm usually not around. I'm still in interested in why 004s are happening so often to me. My best guess is having 1500+ files in my incoming folder with 250+ incomplete hashfiles. So we will see if this problem goes away after a cleanup.

well, I am disillusioned about some of the events in the last 6 months or so, but As long as people ask questions, I'll give it a shot.

I try to avoid some topics that I think could result in stupidty, unlike I did in the old days when guests could post. Because anything could turn into stupidity them.....but it wasnt censored. So I guess its a trade off.

And many of the users from that period no longer post. For some that is a good thing...but some of the others...that was a loss.

yeah ZP does kind of suck now. I was never into the boards but all the popups and girls flashing their ZP t-shirt clad tits arent so cool. Especially all the "articles" announcing new p2p programs that haven't even been coded yet.
Oh my point in posting. Each 004 mismatch gives me 2176 bytes. And I can trim 10K for obvious reasons (and it wont let me). So I can't fix them, unless I want to let it auto-find then browse user, delete file, and re-download. Too much hassle. But will let you know what works after I clean my incomplete fodler.
