The Eagles, Christina Aguilera and Weezer are launching their own digital radio channels which will be distributed across the web via Clear Channel.

Other artists will produce and host their own respective channels in the days to come. The effort, known as a.p.e. (artist personal experience) comes from Clear Channel and Front Line Management. The radio channels will be distributed across Clear Channel Radio’s digital network, iheartradio, and integrated into each artist’s website.

The artist-hosted channels will “allow performers to build upon their long-standing successes in traditional media, while taking a new step in digital content development and distribution,” according to (pdf) Clear Channel. The artist will choose the music and create exclusive content - including personal commentary, opinions and anecdotes. Artists will also share in the profits.

a.p.e radio is a stand-alone company chaired by Irving Azoff, founder and CEO of Front Line Management.

No wonder they killed internet radio - so these shows stand a remote chance at survival.
