Hello there, I have posted this thread yesterday, but for some reason I could not find it. And accidentally I erased all my threads, so I am posting this 1 again.
I am trying to get help on burning video games for ps2 or xbox, but I don't know the procedures. Is it the same as burning a movie or a mp3 file? See, I don't have a dvd burner, what I have to work with is TDK velocd 40x 12x 48x which is very good and also have Nero 5.5 my h/d is 40gb 256 memory installed pentium 5 hundred something mhz windows xp pro.
Somebody has told me that I need a mod chip for the xbox to play burned games, but I still need to know if I can burn a game with a cd burner?
Thanks for all comments.
PS. I just got an avatar if this belonged to someone else, well when I get home I will change to one of my own.

Even though I am blind, I am into gaming, and know what I'm talking about here.
Most ps2, and xbox games are too big to fit on cd. If you buy a game, just try copying the cd, but the ppl your copying for have to have a mod chip, so the games will play, I wouldn't reconmend it though, as copying cds is hard, [have to have 2 cd drives] unless you got nearo.

most ps2 an all xbox games are on dvd, unless there ps2 ones that came out at the launch of the console.
if you want to copy ones on cd, get clonecd and when you run it theres a choice for 'Game CD' or something similar. thats all i can think of. i have two cd drives so im fine but i dunno if that GameCD thing works with PS2. if ps1, get clony XL or XXL im not sure which but one of them has ps1 copy protection get-around in it.

Yes, I am buying another h/d of 80gb at least so I can have my games or movies right there, and so I can also share them.
If these games come in dvd format that means I would need a dvd burner, right? But I thought as in movies you can change the format to vcd or svcd so you can play the movie in some dvd players, it was the same with games if not then I just won't d/l no games and I will just stay with movies, because these I could use Nero and change the format. See, I will try Nero maybe it has an option to burn video games, I haven't looked at it. I will get back to tell you if Nero can do this.

You can burn a xbox and ps3 game to cd although stuff will either be cut out like videos and music or they will split it to multiple cd's. On xbox you can play games without a modchip but you need to tap into some exploitation and its difficult to do and can permanently damage your system. You basically flash the bios. So I would sujest just getting a modchip. The other advantage to having a modchip for the xbox is if you have the proper one you dont even need to burn your games to cd you can just transfer them to the hd using the ethernet port. All of the above methods will void your warranty so do proceed with caution.

It is not the same.
Firstly, you will need a method of playing the burned games on your PS2 or XBOX. For PS2s, you can use a memory card exploit, a flip-top, or a modchip. For XBOX, you'll need a modchip, AFAIK.
Most PS2 and XBOX titles are released on DVD, except for perhaps some "classic" or first generation titles. DVDs are much larger than CDs.
If a game is originally released on DVD, some release groups will downsample or remove video and features to make the game smaller, presumably to fit on a CD. It is then made into an image for burning. This would be a rip, and may not work correctly.
The usual method is simply to release the DVD image and burn with a DVD burner. Except for very large images, these will exactly resemble the retail games. If the image is too large for a blank DVD, video is removed or downsampled, bonus features are removed, etc.
Lastly, sometimes copy protections or security checks can get in the way. You may need to patch the image first or refresh the TOC through various methods. After doing either of these things, the games will play just fine.

Sure. Nero can burn video games. It's just an image, after all. Just depends on if it is a CD or DVD image, and whether or not you have the right hardware.

You can burn a xbox or a ps3 game to a cd, but you need to rip it. I should of been more specific. Crestfallen did a nice runthrough tho. He didnt mentioned the exploit on xbox using um mechassault and reflashing the bios but its not a very good method. Other then that he covered everything well.
