PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The head of the world's most popular search engine urged college graduates on Monday to step away from the virtual world and make human connections.
Speaking at the University of Pennsylvania's commencement, Google chairman and CEO Eric Schmidt told about 6,000 graduates that they need to find out what is most important to them — by living analog for a while.
"Turn off your computer. You're actually going to have to turn off your phone and discover all that is human around us," Schmidt said. "Nothing beats holding the hand of your grandchild as he walks his first steps."
Schmidt, who holds a doctorate from the University of California at Berkeley, also received an honorary doctor of science degree at the ceremony. Penn President Amy Gutmann cited Schmidt's "manifold contributions to putting the world at humanity's fingertips."

Hmm, the potholes, the cold and the rain, the realization that half of everyone is addicted to some drug or just plain alcohol, the local politicians who sit around collecting money from lobbyists, the pollution, the co-worker in the next cubicle playing solitair while you, yourself are burried in work, the tasers, the gangsters, the bums, the panhandlers, the squeegie boys, the pick pockets, the burglers, the people that come to my door hoping to change my religion, the telemarketers, the swindlers, the burglers, the repo men, the tax people, the infomercials, Fox news, the bad garage band next door, the radio that insists that the bad music on the air is the 'best of today', the Reality TV shows, the bad movies that still become "award winning" (I'm talking about you Slumdog Millionair!), global warming, wild fires, local flash floods, earthquakes poverty, millions of acres of dead trees, idle car plants, the economic crises, foreclosures, bankruptcies, biased newspapers that still uses ink that rubs off onto your hands, garbage, canine fetal matter, feline fetal matter, the other bad smells, the cocain that's in the air, hail storms, thunder storms, hurricanes, abductions, human trafficking, murder, STDs, Swine flu, general diseases, and countless other things.
Or...
The internet.
Tough choice.:indifferent:
