Norton SystemWorks 2003 is AMAZING. The suite has always been a classy, do-it-all, Swiss-Army-knife-like program, bundling a powerful disk defragmenter, an automated PC diagnosis and repair utility, and, more recently, Norton AntiVirus. If you rely solely on Windows' own utilities, such as ScanDisk, to accomplish these tasks for you, it's time to invest in your PC's future. No matter what version of Windows you use, you'll find Norton SystemWorks 2003's powerful extra features indispensable, and the suite will soon pay for itself--it costs around $70. But if you already own SystemWorks 2002 or even SystemWorks 2001, don't bother upgrading. The improvements in this version are purely cosmetic. But if it's you're first time, SystemWorks is a firstclass product you should go for.

A good idea, is to go to symantics site and see for yourself what is offered in the different versions. Then make your choice, and get a (ahem) test version.

Koffee been DID answer youe questions, you asked if it was any good, you got a reply, you asked if it contains a virus engine you got a reply.
You also say that you are planning on buying it, then contradict yourself and say your not going to buy it.
Norton systemworks is a bundle of norton programs, norton antivirus, norton speed disk, etc so it will replace your virus engine.

The Antivirus is built in to the suite. A while back, this was debated, and there is a great concensus that Norton Products are bloated, and intrusive.
A few of us that watched Symantic products go downhill thru the years agreed that in general, for an all-n-one solution, the ONTRACK Suite was superior. As I had used Fix-it 3 and 4 by them, I installed the Ontrack Suite, and I am very very happy with it.
The Suite is about a 32 Mb download, not hard to find. I would uninstall the Norton antivirus before, or once I had installed the suite.
Ontrack uses the same Trand Antivirus Definitions found here:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp
I did a benchmark of antivuris software earlier this year, and when it comes to ease of use, cost, and thoroughness, Trend was my pick.
The ability to clean your registry, fix and diagnose hard drive problems, recover, uninstall, cleanup, zip, are just a few of the features.
I hope this helps,
cheers

the antivirus works well, but I always use a backup. As nothing is perfect. There are online ones that work well in that respect. Sorry Krell, we posted at the same time. He is also right about it being bloated. You can tame it down so it doesnt use too many resources, as it has a lot of automatic "features" that slow things down.

Everyone else who posted and said Norton was bloated is right.
It is a hog in regards to resourses and takes a shitfull of HD space. It can be intrusive if you set the protection level too high.
BUT, I would'nt live without it computerwise. I've tried other anti-
virus programs and like Norton the best. The firewall will protect you from almost anything. Norton System Doctor and Clean Sweep are very useful. So, If you have the HD space and
can manage your resources, it's good in my opinion.
