WOW! I never would have thought that! Once old Wolvie was only known to the die hard comics fan. All the other heroes took center stage while Wolverine stood in the wings. We all knew how much cooler wolvie was than so many other super doods but he seemed too scary for the main stream market. Now, with thanks to the XMen movies, he is on top and in position to perhaps even topple Spiderham at the box office. How cool is that?

X-Men Origins: Wolverine' grosses $35 million Friday night

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is howling its way to the top of the box office with an opening day gross of $35 million. Bowing in 4,099 theaters, the film boasted a per-screen average of $8,539 on Friday. Ghosts of Girlfriends Past (starring Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner) also scored a healthy opening-day number, with $5.8 million in 3,175 theaters. Wolverine's opening-day haul lags behind 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand's single-day opening gross of $45 million, according to Hollywood.com's box office analyst Paul Dergarabedian. Whether the can make up the deficit in the next two days remains to be seen. If not, it's highly unlikely the Hugh Jackman flick will manage to match Iron Man's gross of $98.6 from this same weekend last year.

I thought the studio was afraid that the movie was going to flop because of its premature release? Shows how much they know!

They were scared that people would see the work in progress, that was very bad, and people would say it sucked and yes, many people did just that. Its a legit fear but most people found out that the final release was gonna be much different. It really could have killed the movie and was an irresponsible thing for anybody to pull. Luckily the movie studio was able to pay enough publicist to spread the word about the ill released POS and the movie was able to recover. The dumb ass who leaked the print copy needs an ass kicking. He very well could have ruined the comic franchise if Wolverine failed. Some things require good common sense. Releasing shit like that doesn't make a person cool and it surely doesn't benefit anyone at all. I believe in ethical sharing of files and these shenanigans do not fall in that category.

I went to the midnight showing and fell asleep. Someone should fill me in so I don't have to buy another ticket.

Wonder if the MPAA will blame Wolverine for tickets sales lower than the X-men box office sales. Cause you know, Logan is Canadian, and we all know how they like to blame Canada for everything.

I'm actually surprised they kept the story straight for the movie, and did not make him an American. Just about all war movies are distorted that way.
