Microsoft has reported its first ever year-on-year drop in sales as the decline in the global PC market hit the world’s largest software supplier.
The company announced third quarter revenue of $13.65bn (£9.3bn), six per cent down on the same period last year. Net income of $2.98bn (£2.03bn) was down 32 per cent.
In its previous financial quarter, Microsoft announced 5,000 job cuts, which resulted in $290m (£198m) spent on employee severance charges in the subsequent three months.
The supplier said that sales in its Client, Microsoft Business Division, and Server & Tools divisions were most affected by the weakness in the global PC and server markets, although revenue from corporate customers remained stable.

It's not nice to laugh at someone when they are going through bad times... but... screw it, it's Mircosoft... HA-HA!! (laughing at the corp, not the people who lost their jobs)

Agreed. I'm practically employed by them, and I just see and hear mistake after mistake. I really don't know what I'm allowed to say because of the NDA I signed, but I'm just shocked that there haven't been more MEs and Vistas.

Well everyone knows Microsoft is not successful because of their product. Their original offering was just being at the right time at the right place, and ever since they have just rode the popularity built by the first OS. They monopolized the market because no one else could run EXE's and they created a pseudo standard. They do it for all their products, they either don't support international standards, or change them slightly so as to force people to remain using their software. It will continue too unless the government steps in and stops it. There is absolutely no reason why computers can't be cross compatible, its just the fault of companies, overbearing patent and copyright laws. Ipod has done the same thing as Microsoft with their non standard port, every dock made is for Ipods and Ipods only because of it.

I agree, Microsoft are only number one because they were the first and squashed the compertition with copywrite lawyers. forty years down the road though is enough time for someone somewhere to come up with some type of viable alternative.
I thought linux was going to be that alternative but the idiot from santa land produced a half baked O.S. and walked away. He produced what could have been a real threat to Microsofts global supremacy. We all know about version one. If he had updated to bigger and more modern versions like Microsoft things might have been different, but the short sighted idiot just walked away.
I and half the planet use Microsoft windows not because they are the best, but because there is no one with enough balls to climb into the ring and take them on in some sort of serious fashion. I want to jump ship, i really do.

So they tell you step-by-step how to use the wizard. You don't need to use the wizard when unzipping something in Windows. The only time that the Mac OS and Windows interface differ is when the files in the Zip need access to each other. Otherwise, whether it be pictures or word documents, it's the exact same.:privateeye:
