Yup it's true...my condolences to his family! He died Sunday of an apparent heart attack.
The Clash made some damn fine music and were great live. Here's to ya Joe...salute!

Man, that sucks.
I was just beginning to get into old Clash music, using K-Lite to download some old songs of theirs. A friend recently introduced me to his music with the Mescaleros. I realized what a genius the man is.
He is responsible for some of the best music of his generation, and indirectly, he is responsible for the best music of our generations. He was, in short, a genuis.
Everyone, please, go on your P2P service and download a Clash song, if for no other reason than to show your appreciation of this fine man.
RIP Joe Strummer 1952-2002.

i know this is an oldish thread, but i just spotted it. the death of joe strummer genuinely saddened me.
the music he made has meant alot to me over the years, in particular the album london calling - a double album with 19 tracks and not a single duff one - a truly staggering achievment. If you dont have it download it now, you wont regret it, the clash fucking rock.
by the way ive got london calling (as well as sandinista) available for download as an EAC lame rip. anyone want it pm me.

Back in their heyday I thought the Clash sucked, but that's because at the time I was sleeping on the ground following the Grateful Dead around and listening to nothing except Dead soundboard tapes. And every time I heard a top 40 radio they played "Rock The Kasbah" once every 20 minutes. Anathema!!!
But in my old age, living indoors and everything, I have grown to appreciate much that I despised in the ignorant bliss of my youth. Including The Clash. They have a lot of great tunes--check 'em out if you've never heard London Calling...
RIP Joe Strummer, you were a true artiste.
