Fox News ridicules Canadian Afghan mission

OTTAWA – Canada’s defence minister wants an apology from a U.S. television network because of a program that joked about the country’s contribution to the mission in Afghanistan.

Peter MacKay said today that a Fox News show that trashed the capabilities of the Canadian military and joked about the need to take a time-out from the war effort after 2011 was in poor taste.

“I think it is a very limited, uninformed view. It is crass. It is insensitive and it is in fact disgusting given the timing, where Canada is just receiving back four fallen heroes . . . at CFB Trenton,” MacKay told CTV Newsnet today, shortly before travelling to the military base where four soldiers killed in Afghanistan at the weekend were to arrive this afternoon.

The late-night show, “Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld,” featured a panel that took turns bashing Canada. One panelist said he didn’t even know Canada had troops in Afghanistan and another said the only reason the military could pull its troops out of the NATO-led mission was because it relies heavily for security on the United States.

I don't see getting mad at Fox. The reality is that Canadians and the other countries there are nothing but lackeys so that the US is able to say the actions are an international effort, not unilateral. The US doesn't do anything alone now, it brings in it's stooges too.

Afghanistan is actually a legitimate mission. It was undertaken to help the Afghanistan government, at their request, to help route out the Taliban. The reasons for the war are transparent, noble, and needed for the safety of the residents who were being oppressed by the Taliban.

Too many people are lumping all the middle eastern wars together as if they are one and the same. They are not all Iraq, and have no come with the same shame found in Iraq. Look into it, you will be surprised in what you find.

Canada's Afghanistan mission has cost much more than publicly stated, a government report estimated on Thursday, but Prime Minister Stephen Harper pledged troops will stay until 2011 no matter who wins next week's Canadian election.

The mission, which has killed more than 100 Canadian soldiers, has already cost up to C$11.5 billion ($9.1 billion) and the price could hit C$20 billion if troops stay in Afghanistan as long as now planned, the Office of the Parliamentary Budget Officer estimated.

Canada has 2,500 troops in Afghanistan in a combat mission in the violent Kandahar region.

The Conservative government has publicly estimated the war's cost so far at C$10 billion, but Parliamentary Budget Officer Kevin Page said he does not know how that figure was calculated and that Canadians have never received a detailed picture of what they are paying.

Harper said Canada would spend as much as needed to keep its military and aid efforts in Afghanistan safe, and said both his Conservatives and the main opposition Liberals have pledged to meet the country's commitment to stay there into 2011.

The mission is not working now, and the world is not a safer place contrary to our military experts and all the politicians. What Canada has effectively produced is a real threat onto its own people.

We have very little reason to fight a war when we have some very real social issues at home.

Most of us don't even watch Fox except for the sports. Their news programs are one sided to promote neocon's agenda which I hope a lot of us are not!

As much as these people complain about how all the media is slanted for Democrats why do they fan boi the Republicans to the extreme? I sort of see myself as a middle of the road type person and I don't see the other networks the way that FOX and the nut balls that love Hannity and Rush percieve them. The other networks give politics a small portion of their news shows and usually it is presented in a calm rational manner and then move on to other matters. FOX is one long, never ending Repube commercial. Sometimes for one side sometimes for the other. FOX screams far right views loudly all day long. They talk over every guest who is supposed to represent the other side of the FOX view. They are so snide and repulsive to listen to these days. America is so turned off by these guys but just like a train wreck people can't help but look. I tune it at least once a day to try and hear what they have to say and hope to hear something good but I quickly end up turning it off because its so sickening. Hannity makes me want to punch him in his smug face. Always laughing at America when the stock market has a bad day and hoping that America will have a Depression so that his favored party will have a chance in 2012. Red necks and automaton goons eat it up.


I try not to waste my life on hating these people but its hard to stand by and let them run over Americans. They try their best to ruin America and the world for their own gains. If they would use all that energy to give positive critical thinking views perhaps people that could do something would listen. But they don't want to help to make things better right now. They are purposely trying to make people afraid and scared of the current administration in hope people will forget the last 8 years even happened at all. Its all about terrorizing the people and its time everyone wakes up and realizes it. Stop being afraid and tell the nuts to FUCK OFF!
