hi, as the title says, i'm having problems downloading files from rapidshare while running linux... I also run windows xp and have no problems with rapidshare while running xp. but when i'm in linux (ubuntu 8.10) it seems downloading from rapidshare is impossible. Sometimes the speed will be fast (200Kbps... i'm on a free account) sometimes slow (20kbps) ... either way, the download will almost always stop before it finishes. I tend to have more success with smaller files (10-20 MB) and even had some success with larger files (100MB) but that is very rare. When downloading a 100MB file, it will almost always die before it finishes.

I tried using opera, firefox, konquerer doesn't seem to matter, same problem. Then i got just about every download manager that runs in linux... still same problem. And the downloads won't resume either! i've used wget, Wxdownload, Down them all, Fast Download, Aria, JDownloader, etc. Every single one possible for linux and they all have the same problem. The download will die somewhere in the middle and it will not resume. I'm actually having same problems with other hosting sites as well where the download will tend to fail in the middle however some (depositfiles, megaupload, letitbit, vip-file) will be able to be resume after it is broken. but most sites can't be resumed once the download fails.

Like I said, I have no problems while running windows so I know something's wrong with my linux setup... Also, http downloads work fine in linux... as do torrents. no problems downloading them whatsoever.. just rapidshare and most other hosting sites really got me confused... so anyone know why the downloads stop in the middle and can't be resumed? what can i do to correct this? any ideas? any help appreciated. thanks.

For a start progrmas like DTA in linux HATE free accounts, and will try and chug up 100% of your CPU usage to the point that it fails the download.

As DTA is a cross platform program there should be no isses using it in any environment assuming again you have a premium account.

The best solution is to go and get jDownloader.

"JDownloader is open source, platform independent and written completely in Java. It simplifies downloading files from One-Click-Hosters like Rapidshare.com or Megaupload.com - not only for users with a premium account but also for users who don't pay. It offers downloading in multiple paralell streams, captcha recognition, automatical file extraction and much more. Of course, JDownloader is absolutely free of charge. Additionally, many "link encryption" sites are supported - so you just paste the "encrypted" links and JD does the rest. JDownloader can import CCF, RSDF and the new DLC files."

Works perfecly*

*for me, you may not be so lucky judging by the thread

Good luck :)

EDIT- have just double checked your post..... and you have already tried jdownloader.

In that case, I am out of ideas :( If you cnat get that to do it ... I dont know what can. If you are ok downloading from XP.... then why not stick to that.... or get a premium rapidshare account as, by the sounds of it you download a LOT from there, so the monthly fee will be a million times less than the value of the stuff you are getting from there :)

Right, I didn't think it could be the OS, just some settings maybe.. I have Xubuntu 8.10 on the laptop and just downloaded a 100 + 50 meg file with Firefox a few days ago without any problems, except for the 15 minute 'free' wait between the files. My cookies are set so delete when the browser is closed every time.
