Hi all. It's been a long time since I have visited the forums and I guess I've forgotten my old user name. That aside I have been out of the P2P game for a while now. A while back I bought a new laptop and would like to catch up on the new applications.

I downloaded Soulseek as it's what I have used on and off for the past few years leisurely. It doesn't seem to work though and never starts transfers. the site says my computer is configured properly. I downloaded the new version should I go back to an older version until all the kinks are worked out? Help?

Hi. Whats the OS on your laptop?

Which new version did you download? There's a few different ones depending on your OS.

Did you get it from slsknet.org? There's a few other fake sites with similar urls.

Do you have a router, firewall?
Do you have any of these installed? Soulseek has problems if you do.
Steganos Internet Anonym Pro
Steganos Secure P2P
XFire Instant-Messaging
WindowsBlind 3.x (disable theme for Soulseek)
Nod32 Internet Monitor
ZoneAlarm on Windows 2000 SP3 or SP4
NetLimiter
WebWasher
Iontas PCEye2000 Parental Control
WyvernWorks Firewall

It has Vista on it.

I downloaded it from the official site. Version 156c.

The only firewall I do have is the one that came with the Computer. McAfee personal firewall. None of the other applications listed on the site or in your list I have on my Laptop.

I like Soulseek but if I can't get it to actually initialize downloads I'd be highly disapointed. The last time I tried any of the new applications I didn't like them as much and it sucks that winMX had to die so long ago. Any suggestions on the new ones then?

Try this one out, it may garner better connections for you.

winMX has been resurrected, theres a couple threads around here somewhere about it and I remember Mels was using it a bit.
Maybe he will grace us with some info on it. ;)

As far as new ones, I suppose bittorrent is really the only game in town. If you don't care for that, you're sorta stuck with what we've talked about already.
