here ya go. I usually get 1.1 MB/sec speed on private trackers within 30 seconds.

Yeah, hmmmm.
Apparently I know how to use pub trackers waaaay better than you then.

I still use Demonoid and Piratebay once in a while. I know Demonoid is a so called private tracker, but not really. It is good for a few hard to find files though.

I have come to accept the number of seeders/leechers to be absolute bullshit.

I dont think the numbers lie, they just show all peers. They don't just show connectable properly configured peers who aren't using a mod client to disallow uploading, or people who limit upload to 1kb/s

I've used a public site on a rare occasion and, most of the time, there's barely a noticeable difference between public and private trackers.

Edit: You weren't, perchance, downloading a bunch of other stuff at the same time, were you?

Depending on the torrent, 9 times out of 10, I'll get between 1-10kb/s on most public trackers. Never had an issue on private (except lack of seeders) with speeds, or newsgroups. Its the (public tracker) peers lack of understanding about bittorrent that does it, not just that its 'public'. Its not a user error on our side :P

You should show up speed as well. Usually when I get speeds like that.. even on private trackers. It's when there is something else using most if not all my up speed.

Usually if I dedicate most of my up speed to a file on a public tracker, the seeds will prefer sending data to me, rather than someone sharing back at 1KB/s. It's a survival of the fittest thing I think. And we're even even talking fast up speed here. My max is in the 55-65KB/s range.

I'm seeding 2 things to private trackers, but no takers at all. The upload speed on the public torrent is about 1.2K, 1% of my max speed.
Maybe the peers are to blame. A bunch of disgusting pervos from Japan, Korea, and Shaw Cable in Canada, getting busty Japanese porn. These kinds of people disgust me. Grrrrrrr

Hey shut up you, nothing wrong with Japanese porn. And what the hell do you have against my Shaw cable connection from Canada?

I got some invites to some private trackers and tried them out for kicks. Lots of boring BS that I could get on public trackers with no problem. The private trackers didn't even come close to maxing out my down speed 1.6MB/s but they sure soaked up my upstream .225MB/sec!!! Almost all private sites sucks for content when it comes to old and rare movies.

Mels, what private sites are you? All the private trackers I use max out my 6/1 connection every time. I have nothing against private trackers, it's just that I have always had a better experience on private trackers.

I tried that TTrev one and Demoniod. They both suck. The only site thats ever maxed out my connection is Fileporn. But don't worry, I don't want anything those sites have anyway. I find public trackers like the pirate bay more interesting and frankly, Ive never been that concerned with how fast I get my files as long as I find rare old or hard to find content. Seems most private sites only get geeked up over a stupid 0 day release of Mall Cop or some shit like that. Cinemageddon is the only site I care about.

I have tried incredibly weird stuff because of bad routing as well. A guy on 100/100 uploaded a DVD for me and I didn't even get 100KB/s.. it just fluctuated between 15 and 80. He should have been able to max my downstream like 50 times.

Thats what TNT, TBS, WB, TV Land is for.. Demonoid dont count as a private tracker.

at 98.9% completion, it's usual for public trackers to slow down. given the amount of hit and run scumbags, i don't blame them if they do it intentionally.

i'm not a big fan of private sites myself, most of what little i download these days comes from TPB and demonoid. RevTT is the only private site i keep since it's fast, has a good community, and serves up some nice 0 day porn. that and pureTNT, cheggit, fileporn, empornium, err, you get the picture :D

I use only public trackers, ever.
Its unusual to get speeds over 1mbps, but not unusual at all to get 500-700kbps.
Not that speed is really a big factor. Not like I sit and watch a download from start to finish, you set it up and let it go.
It finishes when its complete and has seeded back 1:1.

Using Bit Che and a couple pre channels I like, there's basically nothing I want that I can't get.

Private trackers are like biker gangs, they're for pussies who can't do it on their own but want to be the 1337 bad ass anyway.

Those who know, do. Those who don't join private trackers.

I don't know where you guys are going but I consistently get 1.2 MB/sec speed on private trackers like TL/RevTT/SCC/FunFile with 5+ seeds. My up is always capped at 90 kB/s and just stays there... until the DL is done... then it goes to 250-200kb/s

The fastest I ever got downloading was on RevTT @ 2.1MB/sec. I think it was that Comcast burst/extreme crap that they advertise and I signed up for (an extra 15 bucks a month)... after a few minutes it slows down though.....

On the rare occasion I use public trackers like Demonoid I can pull down up to 500kb/s and my upload is maxed out concurrently....

You must not live in the USA then
I can get everything I need elsewhere, but I prefer the speeds and (my opinion) safty of private small trackers. Sure, I know how to use public trackers, but I dont want a copyright letter. I know IRC and can get a load of stuff there too, but its too tedious. Rapidshare has too many quarks I don't like.

Private trackers suit me, not because I'm lazy or want to be cool, but because its fast easy and I feel safe pirating there.

Sure I live in the US. And I don't get copyright letters either, simply cause I know what I'm doing.

I know the arguments for safety in private trackers, it just doesn't wash with me. I feel much safer being a stealthy little fish in a big ocean of newbs than swimming around in a little stocked pond full of keepers.

Just my preference, your results may vary.

All it takes is 1 peer to connect and gather the swarm info and your IP is on a list, and anyone can do it. I prefer at least some sort of barrier, even if its just having to find an invite, before some one can just grab my IP.
I have a few friends who have recieved letters utilizing public trackers. A couple were using all sorts of safe lists, blockers, etc. Lot of good it did them.

I pirate 100x as much as they do, and have not recieved 1 letter. Maybe its luck, but I'm not pushing my luck by using public trackers.

If I lived outside the USA, I'd use public trackers in a heartbeat. Lots of stuff out there, as said, can not be found on private sites. But my saftey is worth missing out on a file or 2, and most that I request is uploaded to private sites if I request something.

I personally don't like anything mainstream anymore (music-wise that is) I haven't downloaded anything owned by the RIAA in years, so fearing for my safety is pretty much being overly paranoid.

There are specialized sites I use to find what I want, though they happen to be private sites. I still use eMule to get some of the "wierd" files that I can't find. The part that'll be wierd to some is the fact that I've found more fakes on private BitTorrent sites than on public networks. The most common reason of being fake is that some users either fudge the bitrates (saying it's 320 when really it's 256 - not like I notice the difference personally) or it's actually something taken from a radio show (which has become less frequent as of late) As for serious fakes, the score for the last 365 days is private sites 1, public networks 1.

The great part about my tastes in music is that I get some top notch stuff and the people producing the stuff practically beg to get pirated. Win/win. :D

I prefer private, because I don't care much for Scene quality. True for both movies and music. I don't mind waiting for the stuff to actually hit the stores as long as it's top notch.

Who says you have to use ONE or the OTHER. Oink disappeared, i have to look 3 places to get 50-60 percent of the music that was available. I use private for all the new movies, and one torrent site lets others share movies/music and everything else. Speeds are insanely fast. You can throttle your BT upload if your fill your a victim of sharing too much too fast. IF you like old stuff.. GO to public trackers. If you like new stuff without the hassle of knowing if its the real deal or a virus in disguise, private sites all the way.
