Help please Re Connection Type

Hi, Could someone please help me with Connection Type. I have ADSL, but when I select Primary Connection recommended for DSL Winmx virtually freezes up, e.g. when you say select search you have to wait about 30 seconds before it responds. When I select Secondary Connection everything works fine, but am I at a disadvantage by not using the Primary setting. Also what is a Router. Any help would be appreciated.

Ok, if you have 128kbps upload, stick to SECONDARY!! Now if you have higher, You might have to reinstall winmx etc. What is your OS?

My OS is 98SE , Zonealarm Firewall, with Winmx3.3

Primary means you're acting as a "super node" secondary means you're not. The only gain I see is faster/more search results when you use primary.

Stick to secondary and use it. Or find another program that suites your needs better. With P2P it's all up to you. :tilted

youve gotten a few replies to your winmx Q, so i will answer your router Q.

a router is basicly a little computer who's sole purpose is to redirect traffic. it will create a local area network between any pcs hooked up to it, and act as a firewall to them. it takes over the IP address you were assinged and then assigns any comps hooked up to it a new, local ip. this is really good for A) multiple computers and one connection, as they can all share (and be online at the same time) the same connection. B) protecting your computer. since the router takes over your IP, any unsolicited data is just rejuceted, as the router cant find out which pc asked for it (cuz none of them did) and thus just drops it.

i hope i didnt confuse the hell out of you.... i have a way of doing that sometimes....
