No Video
Once you spend hours (days) downloading a movie, and then there is only audio, is there a way to "make" the video come in? I checked out the properties of the file and it says it is a video clip. I hear the soundtrack...no picture.
Do I just delete it and try again? Or...is there a way to save it?
Thanks in advance!

She still did not have her problem solved, and I think she deserves assistance in gettings it. Granted, she is in other forums, and this isnt a video codec\conversion forum per say, but we do have the collective abilities to address this, for her, and for ourselves.
You may refer to the last page of the original thread here, as sephiroth closed it.
http://zeropaid.com/bbs/showthread....15&pagenumber=3
Also, take the time to examine the thread, and ask yourself "What questions were asked in order to properly assess the real problem?". "How much valid information was given in order to accurately determine the root cause?"
I spent the morning uninstalling all of my codecs and players, and starting from scratch installing one codec at a time, and changing the header info for SIGNS to see what if anything will properly decompress it. What did you do?
Does anyone else have this and can properly play it? Can anyone volunteer to convert it to Mpg or VCD?
I'm going to see Harry Potter before children everywhere are out of school . ..
bahhh humbug, cya laters.

I had the same problem with Xvid movies lately. I believe it's the new MPEG4 compression used that caused the problem not Xvid codec. I installed the latest ffdshow, it seems to worked, now Xvid movies all worked on my computer.

shoot, I missed the entire last page and a half of that thread (which seems to be completely GONE)
I agree with Nimo, I had some conflicting codecs, but that was self stupidity (selecting all to install)
What version of signs do you have? I have the SMR tc version, its mpeg 4 v3, with lame ACM audio, works great for me, one of the better quality rips ive seen, PM me if you need it
and btw, welcome back dude, I hope you've taken a long enough break, you deffinately deserved some time off, really glad to see you back :)

LOL . . . Once you've had alien, you'll never go back!
OK boys and girls, I HAVE the answer. I am watching SIGNS, Eight Legged Freaks, and Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind , and they look primo. ( XVIDs)
I went back to the drawing board with this. I knew it was generically a codec issue, more specifically the XVID mpg one, but how to debug it . . . hmmm. No amount of research shed simple light on it, so, I rolled up my sleeves, and went to town.
Let me first say, that now that I have found where it is "configurable" please dont rename the header files to divx! That worked for Eight Legged Freaks, not for Signs. whew.
The Direct Show package I finally got to work was this one.
ffdshow-20020923.exe
After installation, when I play a movie, I see a small blue tv looking icon in the tray. The popup dialogue says DivXg400. I right click to find the "ffdshow MPEG-4 Video Decoder" option, click it. On the left payne, towards the bottem, it says miscellanious, left click that too. A box labelled IDCT has a drop menu, and you may select XVID in it. Below that is the "Workaround Encoder Bugs" drop-down. I selected "old libavcodec and openindex files".
( You should find this on your start menu also - ffdshow = configure) (also, under the CODEC part, put check marks in MPEG1, MPEG2)
Under IDCT you may choose Simple, Normal, Reference, and Simple 16384. Just stick with Xvid for now. (also, Reference is 100% cpu usage, where as Xvid is like 20%)
Also, I went with the PowerDivX NextGen Player, as it is very small, very inobtrusive. I like Zoom, but this is better for most people I think.
So, you must install
A: Nimo 5.8 (first)
B: ffdshow v2002923 (600k)
C: PowerDivX NextGen (optional but recomended)

I still recomend that you install the AVIcodec that I had mentioned in the last thread, this leaves NO DOUBT as to what you are working with in a file. ever.
Thx to you hardcore guys, and to you digitaljunkie, for your support in this.
ladypainter, clean up, locate these files, do the install, configure, and then when the kids cry mommy why cant we watch the movie . . .. tell em its porn night, and send em to the babysitters.

All I can say is thanks, there was so much info there that I printed it off. All I need now is a younger person to teach me how to use all the info better and I will be all set. Great help.
