I was looking for some good quality headphones to use with the iPhone/iPod and came across these at Costco:

I was also considering the Shure line of headphones. http://store.shure.com/store/shure/DisplayCategoryProductListPage/categoryID.12165600/parentCategoryID.12165500

But they seem a little pricey. I would rather not drop $150 bucks. I'm not into a lot of bass but I like quality highs and mids.

What do you guys like to use?

If you are going to buy Shure headphones be sure to get models with a balanced armature. Their low end ear buds are not as good. You can find the lower end armature model for $80 to $100 sometimes.

If you are going to spend around $100 for canal phones you should look into other companies. Many reviewers say Shure lacks bass whereas other companies worked it better. Although, this was when I read about Shures old models, their new models may be better. The big difference with the high end canal phone is the clarity of the music. You can hear every finger slip, background noise, etc.

Personally I have a pair of Shure E2C's and for the type of music I listen to they are fantastic. But if you are into heavy bass music they would probably seem like crap. Their sound is clear, crisp, but low bass, which is fine for rock, acoustic and such but bad for some other music.

Edit: I have the E3C's not the E2C's, always seem to get the two mixed up. E2C's don't have the balanced armature. So they are less crisp, but better bass, and generally cheaper.

I have these

and

And I couldn't be happier. I'm not much of an audiophile, but the quality/price ratio on these was more than satisfactory.

If you're looking for a decent set of in-ear headphones, check out the Sennheiser CX300.

I have the same Shure's as mountain_rage and absolutely love them. They get my vote.

Anything's better than those little pieces of shit that come with the iPod.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Sennheiser and Shure seem to be well regarded by garden variety audiophiles.

The Grado brand also seems to be a very highly reguarded brand for over/on the ear type headphones under 100 bucks... although it's not as stylish as the Sennheisers. It's a tough call.
