The president of the Liberal district association for Stratford-Kinlock has resigned over the government's decision to award a lucrative internet contract to Aliant.

Wellington Gay chaired Stratford-Kinlock MLA Cynthia Dunsford's campaign in the last provincial election, and he's been involved in the provincial Liberal party for 25 years.

But Gay also works for Eastlink, which was not given an opportunity to bid on the contract to provide rural high speed internet. That contract was awarded to Aliant in November.

Gay told CBC News on Monday that a sense of betrayal led to his resignation.
