Once you spend hours (days) downloading a movie, and then there is only audio, is there a way to "make" the video come in? I checked out the properties of the file and it says it is a video clip. I hear the soundtrack...no picture.

Do I just delete it and try again? Or...is there a way to save it?

Thanks in advance!

He he look evey one point and laugh at the stupid newbie!

O ok i hade my fun now (or have i) I will help you out. If you ever download a movie and it has no video or the video is all fucked up or maybe the sound is fucked up. Then you don't have the right codec (your littel newbie brain is probly about to explode)

1 hour later you think umm how do I get this codic you speek of. Well simpe littel man you go on to kazaa (if you say I use shareaza or somthing like that I will slap you if I could) Get somthing called Nimo Codec Pack 5.0 build 8 (I htink build 8 is thenewist regardless any veriosn you get you will be set) well if you are too lazy to go onto kazaa (or too stupid) go here
http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/mirror.htm

HF
and try and not ask stupid questions

(if you have a mac say so it is a littel bit harder but I can get you on the right path)

This queation has been answered many times but here we go again. you will need to download the DivX Codac to view the video. you can go to DivX.com (http://www.divx.com/) and get the codac. if it still doesent work, i am sure someone will post the link to the Nemo codac for you to get. i forget where it is. you can also try another video player, as i would not use the "playa" thing that comes with the codac.

Try that and let us know.

Now Munchables be nice, not everyone can find the search button in the forums.:mellow

You need to reformat your hard drive that should fix the problem"

For a player, I recommend VideoLAN Cleint, or VLC. Although originally for streaming, it can play many kinds of files. With Nimo (commonly misspelled as "Nemo") codec pack, it can play almost anything.

Dude, serioulsy chill out. First of all, calling people names and making fun of them will get you no way here. Believe me, you will get your ass flamed serioulsy. It's ok to tell the "newbie" the answer and then explain to them how to use the search function on the boards. And of all people being "newbies". How long have you been here?

OK, f*uckwad...I tried the "search". It was faster to post the question than to read over post after post. You answered...who's more stupid.....you or me? I just finished a nice dinner with my family while you posted, instead of them going ahead without me MY dinner getting cold...kids asking "why can't we see the movie" while I search old postings.

My many thanks to all those posting on behalf of the "newbie". We all were newbies at one time or another...weren't we? I have many forums of my own, of which I answer the same questions time after time. I even had to teach one lady how to copy & paste! We were not all born with automatic knowledge.

I hope you are satisfied tonight as you stand before the mirror, popping your pimples and then going to bed jerking off. Don't worry...you will grow up one day.......and then again...as I re-read my post.....maybe you won't!

LOL

PS: I truly hope I have not offended the serious responders to my first post...I REALLY DO appreciate your responses.

ZP is supposed to be a friendly place, and if it werent, then most likely, some of our best members would not be here. as for the the codec problem, well asking a question is human nature. i guarantee no one here has ALWAYS searched for an answer themselves before asking. we (humans) are lazy. we want the simplest way to reaching our goal.

You installed the divx codec from www.divx.com? for now, I'll assume you did (btw, this is almost deffinately a codec problem, although you should keep in mind that some movies are corrupt out there, you could have gotten a bad one)

There are many different codecs that could be needed, divx is just the most popular, try getting the Nimo Codec pack build 8 from http://www.btinternet.com/~nimosiro/ (its the one everybody above has been talking about)

after you download it, make sure to read the main page, there are certain ways to set it up, if you do it wrong, you can cause some problems

if you are only intrested in VIEWING and not RIPPING DivX movies, the I would suggest the Nimo Lite Pack available at http://www.btinternet.com/~nimosiro/ , just click on the link at the top, and again, read the page before fully installing

chances are, if you install either of these packs, the movie should play, but there is still a slim chance that you have a corrupted movie, could you possibly tell us the full file name of the movie?

I would recommend using Windows Media Player for viewing movies, it doesnt stop on every minor error like the Divx Alpha player does, if you dont like WMP because it takes too much resources, then I would suggest the BSPlayer, found at http://www.bsplayer.org/ , it plays just about any type of file you could want

Sorry you got some bad responses earlier, hopefully you do not think this is the way the entire site acts....we just have a few people that sometimes go off about nothing, try to ignore them (and btw, in no way am I saying I'm an angel either)

ladypainter,

First go download this AVI Tag Editor utility, so that we could find out what codec was used to encode that movie. Then go download ffdshow for latest DirectShow filter.

abcAVI Tag Editor: http://kibus1.narod.ru/frames_eng.htm?sof/abcavi/index.htm

ffdshow: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow

Second, let us know more about your computer system, is it Pentimum III with over 1Ghz CPU processor, how much RAM do you have, what operating system are you using, etc.

If there is any more problem, we can go from there! The more info we have, the better we can locate the problem. Good Luck! :-)

well ive got the nimo codec pack installed, and occasionaly still get the sound but no picture problem. Now this undoubtedly is a codec issue, but i cant always be arsed pricking about looking for codecs , and as its been said - if the only tool you have is a hammer then every problem looks like a nail.

another way of gettin round this - and it works for me, is just to convert the avi to an mpg.
for this i use winMPG video convert (http://www.winmpg.com/) it is shareware, although there are cracks ;-)
mpg also has the benefit of having a considerably smaller filesize than avi.

by the way, i too was impressed with the way ladypainter dealt with the illiterate moron - seems she has something of the natural flamer about her. Theres been a lack of genuine wit round here lately, and i for one hope we havent seen her last contribution to these forums.

I guess Jared's "Gay MoonMan" avatar got to you.....lol

But yes, calm down if something isn't to you're liking don't call it "gay" either you sound gay (when you say it) or you sound like a gay bashing fuck-tard. Try "You're outlook on this situation disagrees with my morality" or something of that nature......don't forget to add the standard "=D".

As for munchables....I LMFAO every time I see you call someone "moron" "idiot" "stupid" "retarded" "newbie" and anything else that projects the notion that you're challenging someones IQ. Since you speak/write/act like a moron all the time. So please for the love of god stop acting like you're "leet" "smart" "a techie wonder" YOU'RE NOT! Give it a rest...and for fucking god sakes SPELL CHECK.....I know AOL has a spell checker...so use it....hell we all know AOL would have one....they serve the morons of this world.

For the thread starters problem.....(btw welcome to ZP...enjoy your stay)

1) Download Vdub - http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/virtualdub/VirtualDub-1_4_13.zip

2) Extract the zip file...run vdub.exe

3) Open the video in question (with VirtualDub) and tell us/take a screen capture of the error message it gives you.

4) If it gives no error message then (A) Go to the file menu and click "File Information" and tell us what that says. (B) Go to the video menu and click "Direct Stream Copy" then go to the file menu and click "Save as Avi"
save a copy of the movie in question and try to play that.

Sorry that I has to be opening line today . . . but those of you who have been here, our more senior members, know exactly what I mean.

ladypainter, I'm sorry you got off to a less than welcome start here. Also, your woes are not over. Now unless your dear family is accostomed to hearing you swear like a sailor, give them money and send them to the mall.

The codec that you need, that has been the issue the WHOLE time, is called XVID. And Im going to tell you now, its a little bitch.

Nimo will not help you. Not by itself. Nics build of the codec thats included has never worked, not even on one single xvid movie for me. Those blurry swirly images you see in SIGNS, or a blank picture, may never get better, unless you tell that movie to be a "divx" in the movie headers. To do that, you may use the avi4cc editor, "avic".
THIS is the dl link:

Save it to your usual storage space, let's clean up your machine, and do it well. Once youve done your scan discs, defrag, and empty trash, etc, then let's look at what codecs you have installed, BECAUSE, if you do not have the right divx codecs installed, you can't tell SIGNS what to be played with.

In addition, I want everyone to bookmark this page,

The rest of the nonsense, I will address later, until then,
