This in some ways is another useless post by me, but I find this stuff interesting (and no anoying polls this time *yay*)

What is the longest you have kept windows (I know liunux can go for years :P ) running, I use MrTech Systray (http://www.mrtech.com/mrsystray/) to find out for XP

unfortunately I dont remember how to do it from the command line, but I know there is a way to show your uptime, if you cant find a screenshot of that, show one of how long a messenger has been running

here is how far mine has gone so far, I have XP Pro with 512meg of ddr2100 ram, I have been constantly doing virus/windows/driver updates since my last reboot, yet it is very stable, I dont use any memory freeing proggys, and have a couple file sharing apps and other various programs running, I want to see if you guys can prove you can beat this (I will update it as long as I can)

I got a really crappy HP computer, the more I use the more it sucks.

I found out that most of my problems come from the fan. My comps fan is not strong enough to keep the CPU cool so I have to leave the casing open.

Also, I have to shut down the comp when I don't use it so that it doesn't burn the M/B!

LOL, the most I've left it on was about 16hrs.

I'v had over 100 days from a print server running winNT4 server sp5.
It is idle most of the time, the OS has never died, it usually gets rebooted when the power in the building goes off.
With win95 on the same hardware it used to freeze or blue screen every day or two.

NT workstation often manages a couple of months, those machines get rebooted due to people installing software or to see if it makes a difference when one of the 95/98 mchines dosn't appear in network neighbourhood.

Installing IE 5.5 without the IE service pack made NT unstable (use mozilla instead) other than than I'v only seen it die due to hardware problems. I fairly carefull about what software get installed. New wares is tested on a sacraficial machine before its allowed on a work machine.

end of this year i've gotta make a choice and choose whether i want to get a computer made from the specs of my choosing and getting someone to put it together (i don't completely trust myself yet)

OR

Getting a com from www.alienware.com

tough choice to make LOL ; )

I like the new sig though better color and more cuter face, plus a better close up of her......hmmmm

my windows 2000 pro has been running non stop since the 17th of february 2001.
and the only reason it went off was cos there was a power failure.

I have had Win XP running for 36 hours in one go. The reason it crashed was because of Kazaa's spyware.

Im really gonna have to get around to installing kazaalite

Well I've had my main PC running for around 3 months without problems.....but that was ages ago BEFORE Kazaa Lite....lol that POS eats memory like all hell. So now it's normally every 21 days or so. And that's if WMP 6.4 doesn't screw up an refuse to play movies till I reboot or if Kazaa doesn't spazz or some other crap program that requires a restart.

As for the longest I've run.....

Old Compaq workstation running NT 4 server edition....had it running for 9 months non stop (mp3 jukebox :wings)......it would still be going but the bio's chip on the mobo took a turn for the worst....fried out....refuses to even check ram now.

Specs on that systems were - 133mhz P1 80mb of ram two 2 gig SCSI drives along with a slooooow 6x SCSI tray driven CD rom and a 1gb Jazz drive. With Matrox for video and SB 16 for audio.....

I liked that system.... : (

I guess its growing on me....this one just seems to close or something

after reading this tread again, I wondered why it was such a big deal to me how long windows was running, so I restarted today, didnt really need to, but I did find some updates after restarting

She grew on me ages ago...... ; )
At first she looked a bit odd....now she's just "there" and enjoyable to look at.

She'll never top Chii though.....Chii rules! LMFAO ya'll have to agree.....you better agree or I'll make her come kick your ass! After all she's a robot....and a tough one at that. :shy

Anyway, hey your techie question threads keep ZP interesting and sometimes keep things calm an cool around here. I don't recall one thread you've started that turned into a major flame war....so you have a good track record.

I run a SlavaNap server on my Windows 98 machine. My uptime once hit 47 days before a reboot. I average 20 days or so before manually doing a reboot to "freshen" up things a bit.

with all this talk of xp, im plannin on installin it 2nite or 2moro. im runnin winme which is a major problem!

after losin god knows how many vital documents through formatting my comp 3 times this year, i moved my 'my documents' folder to a new partition. i know in winxp on my other comp i can move the 'my documents' folders but is there any way to move the whole 'documents and settings' folder??

im lucky to get 7-8 hours without a crash. it locks up for about 5 minutes every 2 hrs or so!

WOW, pfft before Windows even starts with me I have to reboot at least twice, I think the average crash time with me is every 6 hours, I cant use internet explorer or mozilla after 2 hours so thats the main reason I reboot often. the longest period is probably 72 hours or something I was dl-ing a couple of movies when I was out of town, when I came back my pc was still on, imagine my surprise when I found out it had downloaded all the movies.. :D

On our new setup, Win2k, it's lasted 9 hours+, but then I switch it off because I never leave it on for too long anyways, because I rarely ever use it lol.
On our old setup (Win98), 30 minutes and pfft its dead!

I have had my pc for three months now and it's running winxp. It hasn't crashed yet! But I don't keep my pc running day and night. I just don't use it that often. I work on my pc about 5 hours a day. Sometimes more, sometimes less. I always shut down when I'm done. I just don't see the point in leaving it running all the time, unless I'm downloading a movie or something. Btw, I do sometimes reboot when I'm still working, for example after playing a very memory intensive game like mafia, batllefield1942 etc. After playing one of these, your pc is so slow, the pope can catch you in speed... so I reboot!

with my system, I can play quake III or RTCW after leaving it on for 100hrs, and leave it on for another 100+ without a problem, but I guess thats the advantage of having 512meg ddr....lol

the reason I leave my machine on, is because I use the United Devices cancer research program (it is similar to SETI and can be found at www.UD.com )

If anybody wants to be a part of our small team, and wouldnt mind letting us borrow some spare CPU cycles, let me know at [email protected] , our group name is "Mary_martin_foundation", I started it when my moms cancer progressed, currently our team has processed information for a total time period of 1yr - 142days - 9hrs - 9min - 42sec

btw nasrules, when you install XP, go to this thread (http://www.zeropaid.com/bbs/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4771) for a short guide on tweaking windows (some parts also work for other OS's, I recommend checking out blkvipers site for xp, I saved 30meg of ram in un-needed processes)
