How many people here have a Wii? I notice there is very little action in this section, so I want to see if I can spice it up a little bit.

I don't own a Wii, but I hear that you should work your way up as opposed to going all out on the system. If you don't, you'll get some really sore arms from playing, say, Wii Boxing.

I don't own one either. I did play the bowling game with a group of co-workers recently on our 60" plasma. Good times.

I own a Wii and I find it to be the embodiment of everything that is wrong with the gaming industry these days. Devs just do not try when they make their games. No sense of pride what-so-ever in their work. I think the Wii as a system is great, but there isn't much good software on it because no one puts the effort into making good games for it.
Granted, Nintendo makes some great games, but I'm looking at the 3rd party devs. Their failures are so bad that they have diluted anything good from Nintendo.

I think wii is good system added to the gaming world. Yes, the software might be in its infant stage and I'm sure it will get better. but at least with wii you burn some calories. Unlike other systems kids just set on their ass playing 6-12 hours cause their parents don't give a fuck..."O will just let the PS2 watch the kids" instead of going out side and playing with them, or doing something active. and wonder why they have heath problems. My kids each get 1 hour of game time.

Alright! Nice to see that there are people out there with the same view on it as me. Yes, it is a great console and there are definitely a number of advantages to owning one. It is the only current generation console capable of running unsigned code (or homebrew as it is more often referred to ) without the need for opening it up and soldering a chip. As a "scene" coder, this alone is a major selling point, but Nintendo would like to make you believe otherwise, as if you dig deep enough, you can find a way to run copied games on it ( via homebrew ).
As for the games, there are some good ones, and then there are alot of bad ones. Now, as the console is still somewhat in it's infancy, and Nintendo is now starting to look at who they give a license too, we should see this start to change.
Now, my next question(s) is: Does anyone else here run homebrew? Is there anyone who want's to know about homebrew? I am very experienced and will help anyone who want's to know.

No games will be unavailable and you will still be able to do everything you do regularily without voiding any warranties. You don't change anything about the Wii at all.
I speak with experience, as I have 3 Wii's, all running homebrew. They all work fine and I have access to all the virtual console games plus more via means of emulators. Plus, if you buy import games, you can play them on any Wii (NTSC-U, PAL, NTSC-J) without the need of a modchip, or an old Wii that can use Datel's Freeloader (Nintendo blocked it's use in a firmware upgrade.)
All I can say is as of this moment, the only negative effect of homebrew is that you have to set it up to use it, not like the Dreamcast that worked like that out of the box.
I still say if anyone is interested, let me know. If enough interest is generated, I can create tutorials to be used by everyone.
@Excrement Cranium:
It is the only one of the 3 that is fully able to run homebrew, while taking advantage of all of the hardware and system resources. The 360 has the XNA, but you are still bound to M$ limits and have to pay a membership fee. The closest a PS3 has come is some java games being made to run through the browser. Even a PS3 running yellow dog linux is not as powerful of a machine, and I challenge someone to prove me wrong! (talking about system accessibility under non-official operations, not hardware specs)

I have a wii. Its not running homebrew, I have an xbox for that and it probably plays more anyway.
Wii is great, but not the best. It gets old pretty fast if you play it daily...
But its different, and that gives it a lot of weight in these days where everything is the same.
I play marble mania, wii sports, zelda, and mario the most. Any tips on other great games?

My 8-year-old has a Wii and it's been tons of fun. My sons like to play Wii Sports against each other. I don't limit their game time but I never felt like I needed to, since they both like to play outside and do other things as well. The Wii is really cool and yes, 3rd party devs need to start putting out more for it, but gotta love Mario in any shape or form! Xbox 360 is this years big Christmas gift. Plan on getting Left 4 Dead on it.
I'd be interested in the homebrew thing. Never did get around to modding any of my PS2's, but would be interested in it for the Wii since you don't have to solder, etc.

Cool. I would personally wait for the 360. It still has to many problems for my liking. Go with a PS3 instead. And maybe you will need neither once you see what the Wii is capable of. I will put a nice tutorial together for the forums (try and have it up by tomorrow at the latest) on how you can get from out of the box to running a channel just for homebrew and etc...
And if there are any requests for info (really on any console since ps1, been doing this awhile), I am more than happy to help.

I'm a sucker for the virtual console. I realize you can backup the games to the SD card, but what happens if for some reason I would have to replace the Wii? I guess I gotta ask nintendo on that one
shango46

You can't really. That is something nintendo likes to happen so you have to rebuy. In 2009 though, Nintendo is going to make this possible and make VC and WiiWare playable from SD Card.

Here are a couple links that tell everything that is needed to get homebrew running on the Wii. There are only 2 main things you will need to do (takes all of 5 mins).
First off, you will need to install the "Twilight Hack". The tutorial to do this is here:
http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Twilight_Hack
Then you will need to install the Homebrew Channel. Here is a tutorial to install that.
http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Homebrew_Channel
Once you have installed these, you are on your way. Download your homebrew (games, applications, etc...) and just throw them on your SD card or transfer over the network. Anyone gets stuck, just drop me a line and I can help out.

I agree with the fitness part. Look at Wii Fit. The game is all about fitness and has actually helped alot of lazy people, like ourselves, get off our ass for "fun". Then you get games like RockBand or Guitar Hero that now have the drums. Have you ever tried those things on hard? That is a work out in itself! After playing "The Perfect Drug" by Nine Inch Nails on hard (89% best, so far...), I have to go take a shower, and then maybe lay down. lol.

The Wii is kicking the other consoles butt off the planet! In November the Wii sold over 2,000,000 units! The other two combined did not even come close! I never thought Nintendo could do it but they are beating the other two big bullies with ease. The 360 sold 800,00 and the PS3 sold under 400,000 (down 19% from last year!)
Its official. This round of console wars is over and the Wii took em to school big time. No other console has ever beat the competition so thoroughly... I don't think. This is ridiculous. 2 million consoles in November? WTF?

What do you mean by lack of titles? If you mean number of games, then I think you need to look here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Wii_games
If you mean lack of big names like Mario and Zelda, I disagree again with you. There are already 6 mario, 1 metroid, 2 wario, 3 sonic, 1 zelda (I dont count the crossbow training), 1 smash bros, etc... in only 3 years. That is already equal if not better than Nintendos other golden child, the SNES, in it's entire run.

Good Job Signa! I say that everyone should at least give homebrew a try. Plus, with the ability to run copied games via an ISO loader, alot of people are jumping on the piracy bandwagon, or ship if you must.

I strongly dislike most pretty yet moronic games that blow stuff up real good but do not offer any challenging, inventive game play. Seems like the other guys simply repackage the same games over and over with better graphics. Phewie!
