I have a PP presentation to do in school and after much thought I decided to do it on P2P legalization. I'm gonna give basic info about P2P, talk about napster a bit, the different kinds of P2P and its programs, and why it should be legalized and the effects of it. Do you have any pointers on this and any good reasons why it should be legalized. I have the basic ones, but I need to expand and need good worded ones hehe. Ones that are hard to rebutall and quite convincing. I'll be back later to add more info. I'm in a hurry now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I figure 20 slides should go for like about 10 min right? Speaking is not my forte but I wanna represent the majority of P2p users, such as u guys...I don't have to necessarily change their mind. Of course there will be ppl who disagree w/ me. However I can make them rethink their ways. I can give convincing evidence for them to look over. I can enlighten them and give my viewpoint that will at least make them think twice. This is my preview outline in no particular order:
1) objectives
2) what is p2p
3) napster
4) networks of P2P
5) Kazaa
6) usage statistics
7) why legalize?
8) RIAA
9) How the RIAA is wrong pull quotes
10) type of files
11) MPAA don't care as much
12) Audio: Quality
13) Spyware ridden programs
14) how to combat spyware
I need to make this more organized and add in a few more things. Help is needed and appreciated. Oh ya what sux is that the bitchy teacher won't let us D/L's off school comps (project is done at school and I only have 56K at home).......That means I gotta use clip art and the stuff in PP so basically I am screwed. This drastically changes the way it was done before. Laterz..........Ya so she changed the standards this year and it blows

This presentation edged out over the place where I was born......Seychelles. Yes it is a country. Look on the map for a group of islands off the east coast of Africa a little bit above Madagascar. I even know some of the language, Creole. And when I go back there, I mingle w/ the fine young ladies. Anyway ya I really do need help w/ this......so please gimme some suggestions......things I could say, links, arguments for legalization, etc. etc. I need some creative ideas. Prolly will mention zeropaid in my presentation in some form too. To me this is not boring.....I hope my class doesn't find it boring. I gotta be creative which I suck at doing. The hardest part is organizing all my information while still keeping the class involved...........That's just my personality and my area of knowledge that I thought would be interesting to other people cuz my fellow peers don't really know all that much about P2P. If they don't like, I won't care. My teacher said it would be good.

The only thing I can think of is too expencive talk about how networks like gnutella and eDonkey are completely decenterlized. How they can go though any open port or you can just use a proxy. How some ISP's are caping dls but many are too afrade beucse they will luse custmers (and they will) There is pressure on isp's to devulge the activity of there users to the riaa or what ever. I think that it is the RIAA's best hope but the isp will keep it in the cort untell the RIAA goes under. or atleas thte big isps will. (earthlink is our best hope in my opinion they have prity much always been the fastes compared to how big they are and you don't have to use a fucking cliet like aol and msn. Clients to get online is the worst idea ever.)
I know in communisum intelectual propetry belongs to us all (the main reason fasttrack's servers are in china)
so many ppl are using p2p it would be like trying to illeglize booz agin.
So many people smoke weed and it is illegal.
The teacher won't let you dl WHAT A FUCKING BITCH! I am so glade i don't go to HS any more. What do you need to dl at home that your teacher won't let you at school that has to do with this project?

This will be a massive project to do accurately. I'll just give you a few links and a few quick thoughts.
http://www.boycott-riaa.com/
http://www.eff.org/
Also the news on the front page here and in ZP's archives has some great examples.
eg Jon Johansen only worked on the DeCSS project to get his DVD's to play on his linux box. Not strictly P2P but related due to the fact movies are commonly traded.
eg The pirate bust on the front page outlines people who are not doing P2P, they are the actual pirates. Filetraders aren't in this for money.
eg The story about the RIAA's calculations are helpful too. It points out that filetrading is not having the financial impact being widely reported.
Also I will point out that P2P in it's strictest sense has no problem with legality. P2P is simply coming up with programs to connect 2 or more computers, a very useful project. More and more companies are getting involved in P2P for their business needs all the time.
I also don't think it's accurate to say the MPAA doesn't care as much, they just have better analysts. Alienating your consumers is a quick route to bankruptcy. The RIAA has to either change or be eliminated because with the rise of filetrading more and more people are realizing that
a) they are charging an absorbent fee for their product, far beyond the price they need to make a large profit.
b) the "artists" are typically paid quite poorly, and instead rely on touring to make their money.
c) basically an amalgam of a and b; the customers and consumers have been treated as either sheep or criminals, and they want change.
off the wall points:
a) how can you copyright a series of 1's and 0's? That is what the files being traded are, can I copyright pi?
b) the average quality file on the largest network (kazaa) are encoded at 128 kb/sec, well below the level of CD's.( closer to the radio, which has always been illegal to record from under fair-use laws. (look up fair-use laws)
c) Seriously, does a customer not have the right to protect their investment? If my cd gets scratched on the 3rd day, will they bring me another? Or my DVDs?
I don't know if that will help you, good luck.

Wow thanx for the info cheapprick. You really did help. LOL @ munchables..........i was quite sure if u were being sarcastic or not hehe. Oh and to answer your question about why I would need DSL connection, well it would mainly be because I could get better quality stuff faster. I would be able to d/l sound bytes and images RELEVANT to the slide I am creating. I would be able to put something nicer together w/ that. That's the only thing that really ticks me off. I would be able to navigate my way around the school comps and get what I want and put together a good presentation that way. It ticks me off cuz all my friends were able to put together good presentations because the rule didn't apply to them. She just made it up this year as a result of a few bad apples screwing around. We all get punished, guess that's how schools operate. Cuz let's face it MS clip art sucks. I mean what am I gonna use for the P2P image. 2 kids sharing a firetruck?? wtf is that?hhmmmm......that really embodies P2P. OMG have u heard the audio files in there. I couldn't stop laughin. Man i was like ballin'. Techno, rock, and hip-hop sound nothing like they should. If they're gonna create a database of music at least do it rite. Only the Japanese music sounded genuine. The rest sounded like cheaply produced porn music. I could make a good history of porno presentation using that music.......

Thanx. I'll keep that in mind. Most of the interaction here will be done from school as that's where most if not all the project is done at. I also don't have PP at home and it would take ages to d/l.

that could rock...especially if you had dsl...you could use p2p to download powerpoint and then do the whole present at home and make a note of how you were able to create this presentation in powerpoint lol
on a side..if schools could only use p2p they would have alot more money to spend on something other than microsoft office or whatnot

Artists are humanitarion, they WANT to give their work away free, but they may not always practice what they preach. P2P ensures they do it.
We are personal trainers for the conciousness of the artist.
