What do you think are the worst movie sequels ever made?
drtoker
November 24th, 2008, 03:24 PM
any disney sequel.
Side note: Best sequal to a horrible (first) movie?
Blair Witch Project
The 2nd one had a story, and was actually a movie worth watching for once.

Mind you, I have been watching movies since the first films were made out of parchment.
And in my book, bar none the worst sequal ever made was this stinker that would put Pooter to shame.
The Sting II, Staring the great Jackie Gleason and (UGH!) Mac Davis.
This thing did not even rank as a horrible afterbirth of the original movie.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086370/
My number two worst would have to be Police Academy XXVI.

Clerks 2 hands down
Holy batshit! I can't believe you picked that out of all the crappy sequels like Speed 2 or the Epic Movie franchise.
I know its just an opinion but I don't know a single Kevin Smith fan who didn't LOVE Clerks 2. Ive watched it about 10 times. Every time I feel blue I watch it. I know this isn't up for debate but...GOSH! Gee Whiz! I think its fabulous.

I don't know, man. Maybe I'm just one of the few that didn't think Clerks 1 or 2 was that good. I saw the first one about four years ago after a friend kept going on and on and on about it. By the time the credits rolled, I just looked at him like "so what's the big deal"?
Edit: I've also met folks that think Rocky Horror Picture Show was the all-time greatest film ever made. To this day, I still can't sit through a half hour of it.

Bloody awful. Maybe try Phantom of the Paradise. I actually love that one.
Maybe a person had to see Clerks 1 when it came out. Back then it was really on the edge. Kevin Smith is a rather cultish taste IMO. I love the Jay and Silent Bob comics. Anyone who loves the movies and hasn't read them is missing half the story to the movies. Some of the comics happen in between films and serve as a bridge

You're probably right, being a '94 release. Hmmm, maybe I'll scout around to see if someone scanned any of the comics.

I fully loved the first film, maybe my expectations were too high. It just didn't feel right. The donkey scene is good though, I'll give it that.

I'm not the kind of guy that watch a "bad" movie, if it's some B movie on TV then i switch the channel right away, altough me like any other movie fanatic i have ofc watched some B movies. Anyways Black Sheep must be the absolute worst of these B movies i've seen in my entire life, only thinking how bad it is makes me so fucking crazy!

One of the worst recent sequels has to be:
The third in the Mummy series. It sucked so bad the Rachel Weisz wouldn't play Eve O'Connell again. The only good part in the movie was the Abominable snowmen.

I'll agree. Revolutions had nothing going for it. I'll give credit to Reloaded for having a good track or two in the soundtrack (Burly Brawl and Chateau come to mind offhand) Still, it was only tollerable, but Revolution sank the series into the abyss of crap.
I'll also add Indiana Jones 4. The triology is finished. Leave it the ef alone!
Let's also add Star Wars Episode 3. I respect that it had no choice but to re predictable in places, but be predictable in style at least.
Though I will give credit to the Star Trek movies for taking an aging old set of characters and still managing to pull of an OK storyline still (Nemesis was the last one I saw) Can't be easy after a huge TV series to absord almost every possible situation.

I am in a minority but I loved the whole Matrix trilogy. I think parts two and three could have been condensed into one 2 and half hour movie though. I actually did that once. I edited both movies into one 2.5 hour movie. I posted about it in a thread here somewhere. I ended up screwing the whole thing up. Can't exactly remember how but I moved one movie from one folder to another and then the program would no longer recognize my edit anymore. Why I couldn't fix I don't know...anywho... I cut out most all the dancing and redundant shit, some scenes I thought were silly and I sped up a few scenes [slightly] to make the movie a bit shorter. I thought the new mix rocked but the bad part was the sound. Sometimes the music would suddenly start or jump because of the editing. Not a huge concern if you just want to see a great story...and it was that. Kicking ass from start to finish. I wish I had the patience to do that again but it took a few days to get it right the first time.
I called it: The Matrix: Reloaded Revolution
I was gonna do Kill Bill next but lost interest.

Well at least now we are starting to see some awesome movies people aren't making sequels for, I'd enjoy a bit less craze from superhero movies (except batman).
Even if some movies are based on books/ past experiences such as Lord of War and The Children of Huang Shi, at least the filmmakers have sense not to make sequels!
I think filmmakers should stop making sequels for movies, sometimes it's difficult for a sequel to be enjoyed if it was basically the same thing in the first one, (rush hour, shanghai noon) - difficult to respect the sequels
Of course I am talking just about movies that could end and not have sequels, The Matrix was intended to be a trilogy, and so was LOTR obviously, just be sure to do them well (not that LOTR wasn't totally awesome).
But again there are exceptions...it's not like I don't want to see the new terminator, and while I may seem to be rambling on for quite a bit, I hope someone shares my view on these things, even if it doesn't make sense :P

Any Disney "cash-in straight to video" sequel of their original masterpieces (Aladdin comes to mind). On the same subject of animation, I believe they cranked the shit out of "The Land Before Time" with 15 sequels or something.
But for adults, the worst sequel behavior I think from studios is milking comedy hits with the same formula as the first. (Meet the Fockers, American Pie sequels, Analyze That). With the exception of Austin Powers 2, maybe.
Then again, there are some famously BETTER sequels (The Empire Strikes Back/Return of the Jedi, Terminator 2, Toy Story 2, X-Men 2, Aliens, Die Hard 3 etc)

If you said Godfather 3, that I would have taken seriously. True rubbish that was.
My vote is Star Wars I - The phantom Menace and Star Wars II Attack of the clones. Saw both in theaters. By the end I wanted to clone myself just so I could lick my own butt to get the taste out of my mouth. God awful, honestly.

Hm... well I've been too cheap to buy the movies because they keep showing them on cable TV.. though not the 3rd one. For some reason, they haven't shown then 3rd as much.
It's just that Matrix II's plot seems incredibly random compared to I & III.
