View Full Version : Moving Seeds

Question, I've got approximately 30 some odd movies that I'm currently (actively) seeding.

I don't have any dL's at the moment, just don't need any as of late I guess, but I'm still seeding anyway (as a good BT citizen should).

Here's my question, let's say I want to do some 'house cleaning' and move the files from my hard drive to an external drive, but I want to continue seeding those files.

And I want my dL directory to remain on my C: drive. If I move those files say to my external drive E: will uTorrent still be able to find them to seed ? If my default directory remains on my local C: drive won't the association between the program and the new location of the file be broken ???

I want to move my content because a) I'm running out of room on my local drive and b) I want to rename some of the folders and files [does doing either of those things, renaming and moving create any problems with seeding ?].

I wish to seed as much as possible before I queue up my next dL's but don't want to screw things up by moving things around and renaming things... hence cutting the link between the file and the program / tracker.

Help Please.

Unless you have Azureus you can't do a clean move. You must stop the torrent and sever the link and move them. Then go to appdata and find the same .torrent files, start them and point them to the new location.

you can try. If you have a BitTorrent or something like this, you can open your
x:\documents and settins\<YOUR_NICK_HERE>\Application Data\BitTorrent . Then you will find settings.dat. make a backup of this file (in case something will wrong) then open settings.dat with your favorite HexEditor and change C to E in pathes. That's all.

then start BitTorrent (or your client) and you will see that torrent client checks new drive.

here is how to do it in utorrent:

in your case D:/Download sharing would be substituted for the url of your external drive

the settings in azureus are similar, check out Options>files>completion moving.
