I can't stop.
:icon_comp
Does anyone else have this problem? I feel like if one that was closed, opens up, or even if someone tells me one is about to close, I am compelled to join even if I don't need to.
So many of them are decent but have the exact same content as others I already belong to but have more peers and other advantages. I guess I feel like some of the lower tier players might rise up and be better, so I should be in on the ground floor.
Not even sure how many I belong to, I would have to count them up but it has to be around 30 now. I know there are people who belong to WAY more than that, but I only regularly use five or six at a time.
I thought admitting it might make me feel better.

I used to have a lot of trackers. Eventually you'll find you dont have enough time or bandwidth to keep up with them all, and they will start to be disabled due to inactivity.
Once I realized I wasn't using them, I just picked 1 for each different thing I needed:
1 for dvdr
1 for games
1 0 day
1 with user uploads
1 for tv
Still too many I think, but the specialized ones have things others don't, and the 0 day gets 0 day stuff...well...faster...
Once you get down to what you need and want, you'll be able to be more active in those trackers. Also remember the forums and IRC, good for curing bordom!

that's a great way to approach it
i just have to learn to resist them, unless it's one that i know for sure i want/need and still don't have. like thehorrorcharnel or something like that.
thanks for the advice

because the good ones have things that you don't always see on public trackers
that's why i like them
i enjoy cheggit for instance...
also a lot of times you can find collections or rarer stuff with much better DL speeds

I've always enjoyed P2P and downloading in general, so I keep my hand in everything, from private trackers and Usenet, to storage sites, peer2mail, IRC, and old style clients like eMule and Bearshare. I love it all, and have trouble NOT joining a site. :icon_pira

yeah once i hit that level i'm sure i will DL a lot less. only have a 1TB external right now.
but i like obscure horror, sci-fi and cult movies so i always find stuff i haven't heard of or forgot about
i probably find things on cinemageddon every week that i didn't know i wanted but DL anyway.
:)
also 98% of what i've grabbed was movies/tv. if i ever start on music that will be a whole new level.

Erm, new stuff comes out everyday, there is never going to be nothing to download... As for public trackers, some of us don't like to be sent letters and lawsuits thank you :|
If I could use public trackers safely, I would, but history and peers show that is not the case in the USA.

Clearly you haven't got the faintest clue of what you are talking about. Maybe you are one of those people, who thinks everything comes from the scene?
I'm a member of about 30 sites and maybe 5 of them offer mostly the same things. And that mostly. I'm not member of a single site, that's just a dupe of another site.
Oh and I'm sure your 10 year old daughter maxes out on almost any download with a few seeders. Maybe if you are on dial-up. Go try and find some proper FLAC rip of some CD you used to listen to but lost 10 years ago, or some not to popular but good movie from the early 90's (and I'm not talking some crap 1CD scene rip). Then come back with the same statement.

Hi,
some time ago i also was addicted to have an account on as many tracker i can get on, but then i had not enough time to keep them up, so the inactive accounts mostly got deleted.
so now i have just an account on ~15 trackers but mostly use 5 of them. the others are for special interests and not needed all the time.

Words of wisdom...Xtripit, I am totally with you here.
Unless you are after the current releases, public trackers suck.
For those of us who have a more demanding taste, membership to several private (theme based) trackers is a must.
If you can't find what you're after there is always the requests section and well maintained private sites are usually fast in responding to member requests.
Then there is also the security issue.
A good tracker Owner puts more emphasis on keeping the users safe. (in coding)
Torrents are, in general, of higher quality and checked for content, viri and spyware.
There you go, my 2 cents....

I have a few good multipurpose private trackers, while I find that using sites like mininova, isohunt, etc.. is usually the best way to find the harder to get stuff. And if it is exclusive to a private site (ex. 0 Day stuff), just wait as it will always find it's way to other trackers that isohunt will pick up. And, if you are worried about viruses, the comments are the way to go on any site, but as well just make sure you pay attention and don't download impossible or stupid crap.

Is there still a way to get rapid share for free? I can't see a reason to pay for it. I don't care for full speed on everything I download. I only care about finding what I want and getting it

People should NOT do this! Let people get into trackers that are unable to get in elsewhere. Clogging up all the spots in the members only sites is an asshole thing to do. Sorry, this is not an attack on you personally but rather a comment on the rest of the greedy fucks out there who do not think twice about their fellow peers.
Don't get greedy and grab up slots that you do not intend to use or do not need! That is fucked up.
Maybe the MPAA should try and keep filling in empty slots as to make it impossible for people to get in. Even if they do not intend to download or share they will still be able to clog up the works. BT sucks as a community as it is definitely the "me" community of assholes.

Actually you have it a bit wrong there. There are very few of the good private trackers, which are always full. Actually the only trackers I can think of where this phenomenon occurs much are special content trackers which don't want many members. In other words trackers where most don't benefit from being a member for the simple reason that the content isn't important enough to bother with.
People are on the other hand very wary of giving invites to anyone, they don't know well enough. This comes from the experience of having invited total douche bags elsewhere, who made their life on the tracker unpleasant. Usually just the invites taken away and/or permanent warning, but in some cases more extreme like loss of downloading rights for a period, stat punishment (e.g. the invitees download spree added to your ratio) or even being banned from the tracker. Sometimes not only being banned themselves, but their whole invite tree as well or them being banned and invitees losing their invites forever.
Until the filesharing/invite forums change their tactics and start working with sites on weeding the bad apples out and perma-banning their asses, I don't see this changing.
The sites don't limit membership to be elitist. They just want to keep the good for nothing users out, while keeping the good users safe and happy with their memberships. You can thank the bad apples for sign ups being closed, invites being closed or hardly not handed out to users. You can also thank the bad apples for only some clients being allowed, strict ratio rules, strict staff and every other irritating thing with current system.

You gotta be kidding me? Is this a joke? Am I being Punked?
Bottom line...People who run around trying to get an invite to every site even though they do not need them are douche bags! They should leave some sites open for people who need them.

What I'm saying is that not many sites are full. Sites are hardly ever full. Of course there are open signups exceptions like TorrentBytes or SweBits (never been member of either one of them btw), but they are full because they have quite decent content from what I hear.
