Yes, The Mars Volta, Rush, Coheed and cambria, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Dreamtheater, Between the buried and me, and many others.
These are bands that make my life feel meaningful. there is no joy as joyful as sitting down and listening to some fucked up shit like Pink floyd and the mars volta on an otherwise boring day.
Anyone ever noticed that the bass is almost always mindblowing in prog? i did.
I LOVE PROGRESSIVE ROCK/METAL
let's discuss this

and it isn't only bass thats kickass in this genre, musicians here are extremely accomplished, i hear jordan rudess plays with his organ all day ;D

don't go online much these days, fallen behind the times i guess.
i got hold of a coheed and cambria album and had a listen, nice. it's from their acoustic sessions album and i especially like "Cuts Marked In The March Of Men", probably made nicer since it's in it's acoustic avatar.
but having said that, i still go back to the older stuff for my fix when i need it.

I apparently fear both of these sub-genres.
I enjoy selected Floyd, and am interested in the C&C concept albums... but I can't coax myself into enjoying Radiohead, which causes me to be an outcast in some circles.

I can appreciate some of the old school gangster rap like tupac/Biggie. The new stuff seems like crap though. I like to crank Wagner and Verdi on the surround sound in the house. That's good opera.
I enjoy virtually anything too EXCEPT Metal. I don't know how you guys do it. It gives me a headache.

I personally am not a radiohead fan either. I like the song creep. but their other stuff just gives me a headache :-/ I tried to like them though. I never really thought about what genre they go under... experimental... something

At least I'm not alone in not only not liking them, but putting forth an effort to see what might be getting missed.
I guess I'll have to live with being one of those few that don't ride the hell out of Thom Yorke's nuts.

I couldn't even watch there will be blood all the way through because the soundtrack killed it for me. I didn't like it much anyway, but the soundtrack drove the nails through the coffin for me.
Then I found out it was by johnny greenwood :-/ I didn't even realize that. I'm just not a radiohead sorta guy

What The HELL? You didn't watch There Will Be Blood because it didn't have a dance track? Thats fucked up! That movie is so kick ass. I just watched it again the other night and I thought the "soundtrack" was right on for that sorta movie. Its NOT a SOUNDTRACK either. Its a musical score.
Time to jump off this soap box

No, I didn't like the movie in general gosh. Musical score or not. The "musical score" just made it that much worse for me. honestly, I don't have the patience for it. it's not very well paced. just a tad to slow. it's one of the few movies I had to actually quit watching due to being bored out of my mind. The only one I can really think of that had the same effect was the first LOTR movie. I did not like that at all either.
but that's aside from the point of the thread lol

You're not alone really. I don't think most people liked it. I thought it was the best movie I have seen in a very long time. Its very slow but I like to wonder what is going on in Daniels mind. He was one rough bastard all the way to the end...and the end is the best part but it would probably piss you off even more. lol No kidding.

I didn't dig TWBB either.
On musical scores:
You should see the difference between the Theatrical and Director's cut of Legend.
A musical score over the Theatrical pop music release makes the move feel sooooo much darker.
