i cant understand why so many people use winmx
and why this program catch up your heart.
it seems to beone of the worst p2p programs i have
ever used from personal experience.
i have used many protcols for download, for example
fast track,gnutella,http,ftp,irc,newsgroup ( its my
favorite !),direct conent,and so on.
surely, there are some rare files on winmx.
but someone who have rare files would always
be p2p expert like "trade only people" .
whennever i connect wpn, i always get IM that
says "trade?"
why they atemp to trade for even mainstream
files like major software?
this really sucks.

Well orange, gues your experience is a little different thanmine. I have had great success with WinMX.

If Im looking for something new, I will look on irc or newsgroups. And every once in a while a trip to DC land is in order, but its a good old of WinMX for me.

Have u used AFS and AEQ properly? I get the Trade messages, but AFS and AEQ find more than enough sources for me.

WinMX FAQ (http://vladd44.com) you might find something there that canhelp you maximize winmx...its worth the shot.

because the only place that I can get rare stuff is winmx and soulseek. Need other reasons?

I use WinMX for Music only. It has music with good bitrates. I only use WinMX becuase Blubster's client(2.0) is too buggy to use. I do admit, even music gets queued in WinMX. I downloaded a file with about 20 sources. All the sources either queued me up or returned the old "File/User is unavailable", although it did eventually download. It just took a while. But its the only alternative for good quality music. If anyone knows of any Clients/protocols that have good quality music(no AG clones), please let me know. Oh, and forget Ubernet.

this really sucks. A lot of people like to use WinMX for it's rare files, low CPU usage, no BS-ware, endless search results, & quality bitrates (or is it just me). I've never really had any problems with WinMX. Sure being remotely queued can be a pain, but with a little patients (if you have patients) & a little luck, you'll almost certainly get what you want. WinMX requires a lot of patients.

I can always find what I'm looking for (mostly music) with fast download rates (multi-point dl is great). It works for me, so I am happy with it and that's all that counts. I do admit the ques suck sometimes but what p2p program is absolutely perfect (that's why I have more one on my comp).

winmx is what i mainly use ...even in the napster/ag days heh
lots of high bitrate audio...yea it has its downsides queues which will go away quick...with music files anyway but others are worse then winmx such as gnutella...not much quality..edonky..requires more patience then winmx and kazaa carp music files and most likely has the most spoofed/mis labled files. also dc..if u dont have alot to share or on dial up forget about it......urbernet thats a hub on dc right?

I have always had good success with WinMX, but I have most p2p apps on my puter.
It's not a bad application. You simply need to work with it and become familiar with it. It is actually very good.

I simply use what ever I need to get what I want and I get most of what I am looking for. Though lately I like browsing and discovering new music. (new to me)

:-)

peace!

Kinda feel the same way about newsgroups as you. They're the best place to find music I wasn't actually looking for, like tapes I had in the seventies and early eighties. The "oh shit, I used to own that album" kicks in, and next thing you know it's all in your download queue. A sizeable amount of music I share in WinMX comes from there. WinMX is my favorite if I look for a specific song, to complete an album for instance.

WinMX really is horrible for anything other than music. Oh yeah, for some reason I can't upload files with it anymore. I uploaded a few entire CD's to some people a few days ago, nothing by "Timed Out" but I can still download. I opened up everything to WinMX, restarted, and it still won't work. I'm not on a college LAN either. What's going wrong?

i think most of you have hit the major highlights of it for me

-low processor usage
-multiple searches
-easy upload controls (IMHO) than kazaa
-"hacker" look, very configurable and easy on the eyes at 2AM, overall very sleek looking
-upload control is good, i love to see who im uploading to, and what i can share
-On kazaa, i share a lot, but rarely upload anything, on winmx, i share the same amount, and constantly max out my bandwidth with over 10-20 in queue, so i feel like i contribute more to the community
-great selection of music, although other programs are better for apps and warez
-fewer virus's
-open nap servers....nuff said
-dont need a light version or a super hyper advanced version to make it look right and have no spyware
-hashing that works
-auto find more sources BUILT IN
-easy to see bandwidth (altho its easy to fake your speed, it is generally accurate for me
-in the search area, it shows whats most available first (queue spots open)
-unlimited search results
-less fakes and crappy files
-great filters for searching
-overall advanced but easy to use atmosphere
-are you still reading?

i really like winmx, i last used it in the 2.x era, recently switched back, now i LOVE IT, i only use kazaa for movies and warez, or if i need a quick popular song

One thing I would love to see them work on in future versions is a built-in media player to preview your files. But other than that, I wouldn't change a thing (other than doing something about the remotely queue thing).

I have been asking myself recently "why do you continue to use winmx". I have always been pleased with Winmx and have never used other P2P,s, but since I upgraded to 3.31 I hardly have anyone uploading from me, and when I want to download I wait for ages in queue's, and like yesterday I had been queuing 3 hours for an album I had got to 5th in the queue, when the download went red, and said' network timed out', and whatever I did it would not reconnect, this is not the first time, and the language I have used at Winmx is not for the faint hearted. Is this common or have I just been unlucky.

go back to the previous version. I have heard others complain as well. I personaly only upgrade when they force me. I like winmx but they have a bad track record when it comes to upgrades. they seem to mess up and a few upgrades later get it right.

still I am sure your success would return on using the previous version. I use version 3.3 not 3.31

ok,i am in a differnt part in which you are, even on
the same p2p networks,winmx.
i am wrong.
but i feel winmx is starange.
i wonder why many trade only people are on winmx.
for example, soulseek has some fuckn ppl who
upload anything to the users added to ther hotlist.
but i can get many rare mp3 from those who
sharing freely.
i cant get rare files i want...
surely, its because of not tarade only users but
also bugs like ghost file and time out.

i havent recieve any message that offers trade
on other p2p networks.

I had the same problem, not being able to upload. I changed the ports in WinMX Settings from 6699(TCP) to 16699(TCP) and from 6257(UDP) to 16257(UDP) , restarted WinMX and all works well again, maybe this might help

i used winmx, for 2 weeks, but its sucky GUI and its queing just suxx.

I switched WinMX to ed2k/emule and then, in September to Shareaza.

In its G1-days it wasnt the best client, but i liked it for so many features.

Now shareaza 1.7 beta is the best choice for me and i suppose for everyone else - multiply searches as in every proper gnutella network, fast and global searches due usage of G2, Player, File Manager, Meta Data independent from the file (ID3 tags let you file change its hash), TTH for secure and corruptionless downloads and its advanced featured as linking etc.

phalkon definately hit the nail on the head, you f,ucking newbs.
winmx for mp3s (soulseek for electronic) all the way.

irc, newsgroups, and emule (with patience) is the only way to go for everything else.

i also only use kazaalite for a quick popular song. gnutella, even G2 is $hitty as all hell.

most of my mp3 are jazz and modern music.
i download both them on newsgroup or
soulseek mainly.
last month i comleted steve reich's works on newsgroup.
i guess NO p2p network have all steve rhe reich's works.
newsgroup is excel at minor genre.

WinMx is usefull for finding rare files (such as Dreamcast games).
However it seems to be sloooooooooooooowwwwwww no on uploads and downloads no matter what you do and users recommend.
Why is Win Mx so slow ?? I understand that there is a problem of users who are on dial up connections and should
be designated as secondary users (troublemakers) who fool
the system and designate themselves as primary connections.
This would explain some slow connections.
But in cases of real primary to primary WinMx connections
service should be somewhat fast but it is not.
Any ideas why ??:mellow

I canīt finish my dwl, and winmx reboots my puter and i donīt know why. This problem is recently, before i never had a problem and my speed was very good.

I have been getting great results with minmx lately. I've got all the recent Futurama and simpsons episodes at nice speeds. There seems to be a surge in the amount of video being shared on winmx. ive also been getting alot of twilight zones that are just too cool. any one else noticed this?
