Hey ZP, long time no see. I could use a little help, and I figure what community would be better to ask this than a community that understands the need to backup lots of data.

I have an aging server, that I don't want left on running 24/7 at my house in college. I have another computer with several 750 gig drives that will be left on most of the time because it's the computer where my data is most used. I would like to keep my server as a read only data source, it will be the only information source that is updated.

What I'm looking for is software that can do incremental backups from a read only source to a network drive with write access. I would prefer the software to run on the server so that any time it turns on it would update the other computer (assuming that computer is on).

Does anyone have suggestions for backup software that would fit this need? I would prefer a free/open source program, but am willing to buy something.

Have you check the Acronis TrueImage Enterprise Server & their Workstation Edition software? Sorry, they're are not freeware but you know how to get them for free. Their Home Edition is what I use, I like it a lot!

Wow guys, sorry it took me so long to respond. I recently switched to Firefox, which has issues with Hotmail, so I haven't been checking hotmail (which is where forum replys go to on this forum).

ANYWAY....

Thanks for the suggestions. I looked into Acronis, but I was looking more for a mirror image rather than a backup as an image.

Napho, that program looks excellent. Unfortunately by the time I read this, I already found another solution that someone on another forum suggested to me.

It's called cobian backup: http://www.educ.umu.se/~cobian/cobianbackup.htm

It does everything I was looking for, synchronize on boot and timed intervals, incremental backup, keeps the file system the same, and can upload to network drives or FTP.

Thanks for the suggestions and the greetz guys!
