I just got a new DVD player the day after Thanksgiving. I love the fact that it supports many formats including vcd and I want to transfer all my video files to that format. What are the best free programs out there as well as ones I can get off a P2P that are really easy to use. I plan on burning them with the app that is included in EZ CD Creator 5 Platinum.

Listen.....Easy CD sucks.....

Just use.....Tmpeg to encode from divx avi's to mpeg 1 then burn using VCDEasy.....it's a tad hard to get started and produce decent videos...but once you get the hang of it you'll be fine.

Also a word of advice.......DO NOT BURN YOUR VCD'S AT ANYTHING BUT 1 OR 2x any faster and you're bound to get out of sync audio and shitty frame errors (they look like messed up frames when played on a stand alone DVD/vcd player.)

Or you can just go buy a TV out grahpics card and set that up....it's easier and you lose no quality going from Divx to vcd.....plus you don't have to take the time to convert from avi to divx.

Anyway if you still wish to here are the links.

Tmpeg....

VCDEasy...

And heres VCDEasy's faq walk through stuff....

Just search google for walkthroughs on making VCD's and al that.....and you should be making decent CD's in no time.

CCSDUDE will tell you that Easy CD sucks, I personally use it to burn all my VCD videos and it works flawlessly for me. The burning really doesn't affect the way my videos look, the process of turning them into VCD is what will make or break them.
He also says not to burn at anything faster than 1x or 2x, however I regularly let mine burn as fast as buffer underrun protection will allow it and it burns them without making coasters each time(over 180 VCDs burned, no coasters).
Depending on how many formats you have to change into VCD it could be a real time consumer. I've really only converted DVD formats to VCD formats mostly, so if you have other formats (like Divx) then I'm not so sure about those.

Thanks, . I'll give em a try. I do not plan on converting large files, mainly rare music videos. The most is probably 60 -70 mb.

Thanks a lot

Well, Easy CD is a tad picky from my experience....and the versions I've used crashed like every other minute.

When I said burn at a slower speed.....I wasn't talking about buffer under runs. If you know anything about how a VCD is laid out you'll know that there is no error correction. And if you burn at a higher speed the data is more likely to be corrupt....which in turn causes frames to distort and come up with pink blocks/green blocks and afew other undesirable effects along with the audio going outta sync. So burn slow, be careful with the burned disks....more so then you would be with a DVD...they have it...VCD's don't and one scratch can ruin a disc.

Bob, give VCDEasy a try.....you'll be happy with it. CDRAO is a great program/port from Linux and it has never given me trouble like Easy CD's crap aspi drivers.

And just as the title implies... VCD Easy is pretty easy to get use to. Plus you can turn Jpegs into menus with it. IE you create a Jpeg with names of chapters or videos...with the corresponding number (track on your VCD) and have it be the starter of your VCD. It'll sit there waiting for your imput. Almost near a DVD's ease of use...
