Get the most outta your old stuff.....I still use old P1's for mp3 jukeboxes so its all worth something till it 'explodes' lmfao.
As for my dream system....I work with big video files and all that....sooooo...
Duel P3's Xeons....
Donno about the mobo...the one I saw awhile back is sold out.
1gig of 133mhz ram.
Rack mounted daisy chained SCSI drives @ 15,000 RPM with noise dampening and fans up the wazoo....
Osprey-2000 DV Pro video card...
Aardvark Q10 for sound.....
Case doesn't matter....
Sony 19+ inch monitor
Keyboard/mouse don't matter.
Altec Lansing speakers or outputted to a amp then out to a set of Sonic speakers.....

this thread wouldnt have been started because of The Screen Savers UMG6.0 would it? lol, its like the exact same specs
hmmm, wonderboy, u got the money, i could build it, if you pay me enough, ill even drive it to your front door (you only live in the next state over), now for the specs tho....
dual P4 3.06ghz, nope
nvidia, you bet! either Nforce or the fx card (not sure if its even been released yet)
only 2 gig ddr?? my M/B from ASUS supports up to 3gig DDR2700, and its almost half a year old in specs, dream bigger man!
audigy....the orgasm of sounds cards.....
gigabit ethernet card, hmmm, cant say ive come acrosst one of those....
a terabyte, yeah, i think i could manage that, put in about 7 SCSI drives, i know it can be done, TSS did it last spring
that burner?? GO FASTER! 56x24x56 is the fastest ive seen, gl getting media to burn that speed tho....
umm, dvd burner, IN YOUR DREAMS, nothing remotely close to that, last i checked, 8x4x56 was the fastest
10 of all those.........damn thats one big case, you could custom make a case, with a small generator built in.....lol
2 serial, ok, so you want to go to this computer, and INSULT it by using serial??? just buy usb or firewire (seeing that money means jack)
superdisk.....that one slips my mem as to what the hell it is
that monitor is tiny.....how about a 42" plasma? now thats BIG, or get this mutha (http://www.zeropaid.com/bbs/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4855)
printer, go get an all in one lexmark, the drivers dont work well, but its advertised great, so it should be cool
XP, i can get you a good deal on that one *wink wink*
gl with finding the resources, lol

yes, im a total copy cat, but hey it gave me an idea. i love that show. lol, orgasm of sound cards? dude why not just upgrade to 5.1, or 7.1 surround sound? that'll totally piss off your neighbors, imagine hearing the windows start sound on 7.1 lol.

i love that show to, their web site is my homepage
btw, the hyperthreading thing, from what i understand, in theory it works similar to a dual processor, it can under certain circumstances do 2 processes at the same time.......i think i remember that from TSS actually, lol

this much i have already!
i have regular 5400 drives (that are good enough for me)
a 40x burner

Great lmfao no one comments on mine......I'm guessing thats cuz you don't even know what I'm talking about....... :mellow
That "orgasm" soundcard is weak as hell IMHO step up to the cards that cost more then a full system if your gonna dream! Shit the video card I picked is 5 grand! A dream is but a dream....ack I want my insane system....I like making AMVs......
Anyway for burners I'd say just snag some classic slooooow Plexor and use that....maybe a DVD burner. I really don't care about that kinda stuff.....except if I'm gonna go passing out disks of my work.
As for HD's.....I'd say atleast 30 SCSI 15k RPM drives in 3 HD racks. Push 'em off to the side so you can't hear it and your all good.....
JLG....lmfao I see you followed Cheap Prick.....well I'm listening to.... hitomi no TONNERU at the moment. I may add one of those too...I'm already signed up. :goodjob
Edit: Notbob..... I already have something close aswell....I don't like AMD's or P4's so I'll stick with Xeon....
For now it's a 1gb of SD and a shitload of HD space along with a P3. I like it....it never gets hot (well this external boxed Maxtor does....but it's just a crap firewire box modded to take the shitty drive and a fan.....curse Maxtor and it's superthin drives...).

all maxed out it only costs $3864.00 super fast shipping included. Not that bad for what you want.
That would cost me about $30,000 where I am. You can get a name brand high powered com here for $16,000-$18,000.
But that's gotta b awesome to own one of those, gonna save up and get something like it.

Just give me the best of everything.. I don't keep up enough with the current technologies.
I think my computer is pretty damn good now though although it IS lacking a DVD burner (something I really want)... oh and I really want AOL 8.0 to go with my new computer!! lmfao

in reply to the hyperthreadign question:
hyperthreading is basicly a new way to increase the clock speed of processors. first of all, im no expert on this, so sorry in advance if i get some facts wrong.......
intel has found ways of making there chips smaller and smaller, so in order to make the chips faster, they need more space. but since they have been able to make chips smaller, the size of the processor stays relatively the same size. hyperthreading is a new way of 'filling up that space' (for lack of a better phrase). it essentially makes multiple processors in one, that act as one, but have the speed of multiple processors.
again, this is just what ive been told. I AM NOT SAYING THAT THIS IS NESSESARILY CORRECT

i went to intel's site and this is waht i found. it's basicly what i said....
"Hyper-Threading Technology is a groundbreaking innovation from Intel® Corporation that enables multi-threaded software applications to execute threads in parallel. This level of threading technology has never been seen before in a general-purpose microprocessor. Internet, e-Business, and enterprise software applications continue to put higher demands on processors. To improve performance in the past, threading was enabled in the software by splitting instructions into multiple streams so that multiple processors could act upon them. Today with Hyper-Threading Technology, processor-level threading can be utilized which offers more efficient use of processor resources for greater parallelism and improved performance on today's multi-threaded software.
Hyper-Threading Technology provides thread-level-parallelism (TLP) on each processor resulting in increased utilization of processor execution resources. As a result, resource utilization yields higher processing throughput. Hyper-Threading Technology is a form of simultaneous multi-threading technology (SMT) where multiple threads of software applications can be run simultaneously on one processor. This is achieved by duplicating the architectural state on each processor, while sharing one set of processor execution resources. Hyper-Threading Technology also delivers faster response times for multi-tasking workload environments. By allowing the processor to use on-die resources that would otherwise have been idle, Hyper-Threading Technology provides a performance boost on multi-threading and multi-tasking operations for the Intel® NetBurst™ microarchitecture.
This technology is largely invisible to the platform. In fact, many applications are already multi-threaded and will automatically benefit from this technology. However, multi-threaded applications take full advantage of the increased performance that Hyper-Threading Technology has to offer, allowing users will see immediate performance gains when multitasking. Today's multi-processing aware software is also compatible with Hyper-Threading Technology enabled platforms, but further performance gains can be realized by specifically tuning software for Hyper-Threading Technology. This technology complements traditional multi-processing by providing additional headroom for future software optimizations and business growth[/I]"

I happen to know that moonman IS quite tech saavy... Im sure he was joking. or was he!?
and I think Ive posted this before but if you go here: god box (http://arstechnica.com/guide/system/godbox.html) to ars technica and check out the god box..... this is the generally the best of everything available, updated roughly monthly.
add in one of those huge "virtual" monitors that phalkon30 linked to in some thread- I dont remember where, just that it was not in cool technology where it belonged (just messing with ya phalkon, how about posting a link again?)- and youve got one hell of a system.
however, the one Im building "one piece at a time" is nowhere near whats in the link.... but I will be happy nonetheless.

umm you all suck it is all aobut the itanium 2 (64 bit prosser) all I know is there 3k a pop and large companys use them. there are mother boards that can have 8 prosses (p4 and itanium, xeon only sorry amd)
ddr 3500 of corse (4 8 gig stick you know for a nice little ram disk I will halft to use a *nix buecse win won't allow that much ram I hate windows so much for little fucking reasons like that)
and why not a scsi 3, 15000 rpm 181 gig mabe a few of thous (scsi can support 10 i think i know scsi 1 can support 7 and scsi 3 can atleast support 7)
a 52x 24x 52x cd rom dirve i guess
naturealy a dvd ram dirve (i have one in real life)
GeForce TI 4600 or a OXYGEN GVX1 agp but problay go with a quad prossissing 256 meg ddr RAMDAC (very hard to get)
this is all very real and rapes the fuk out of the "god box"
a 50 in plasma discharge dissplay (6k a peace better only get one)
yeah mabe I will get a coupple and you know multi-comput with them give the gov a run for there money.
yeah that totals in the tens of thousends right there but it would fly.

as a noob, staring out your post with "umm you all suck..." is not generally a good idea.
with that being said, i have a few things to ask you.
1)why not DDR2? its alot faster, and yes, it does exist
2)future versions of windows will support that much, i guearantee you. the reason it isnt now, is there is absolutely no reason for it. windows can run on 128MB, including most apps. i have yet to run into a prog that wont run on 512MB. (that would be one massive program)
3) why not get solid state drives? that'd be sweet, as it will completely abolish the need for ram. oh god.... im drooling again....
4)geforce 4s are outdated already. ati makes the 9700, and nvidia makes the geforce FX. both leave the gf 4 series in the dust.
5) (sorry, i didnt see the processor segment right away) why not get sony/ibm/s cell processors? supposedly, somthing like 30 of them can fit on a dime, and each one has a clock speed of 500mhz to 1 ghz. start staking some dimes and you'll see just how cool that would be.
just so we're clear, most of this stuff does exist, the rest is not too far off. (SS drives, cell processors)
