The ten advices by the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute are as follows:
1. Do not allow children to use a cell phone except for emergencies
2. While communicating using your cell phone, try to keep the cell phone away from the body
3. Avoid using your cell phone in places where you can passively expose others to your phone’s electromagnetic field
4. Avoid carrying your cell phone on your body at all times
5. If you must carry your cell phone on you, make sure that the keypad is positioned toward your body
6. Only use your cell phone to establish contact or for conversations lasting a few minutes
7. Switch sides regularly while communicating on your cell phone
8. Avoid using your cell phone when the signal is weak or when moving at high speed
9. When possible, communicate via text messaging rather than making a call
10. Choose a device with the lowest SAR possible (SAR = Specific Absorption Rate)

I do that anyways because I mostly hate talking to people on the phone. My friends can't get to the point fast enough. Texts force them to lump their message into 160 characters.
And I don't text people because I'm avoiding cancer. I do it because, let me state it again, I MOSTLY HATE TALKING TO PEOPLE ON THE PHONE.

What's even better is that I work at a call center and answer phones for a living.

Well to your defense, with most call center calls theirs a purpose. With most social calls your talking about piss all 80% of the time.

Telling people step by step how to type # isn't fun either. But you have a good point... most calls I take are technical in nature (or password resets).
My friends call me to hear themselves talk, I think.

I've been having this problem myself lately. At times I need to raise my voice just to say "Well, I better get going. It was swell talking to you."

Because anyone who talks on their cellphone while driving can't afford to loose anymore brain cells to cancer.

I must be the only person on the planet with no cell phone.
Hell, I don't answer my house phone unless there is an emergency.
I REALLY hate talking to people...

He emails me and says "call me if you have questions" but isn't around to answer his goddamn phone, then doesn't call back til it's too late.

I broke down and got a cell about a year ago. It's convenient at times, but I don't really see what the big deal is.
That's...sad.

If I was living alone, and needed to pay for a phone, it would most definitely be a cell phone. But living at my parents, I have a home phone so I don't see the point of spending 500$ a year on a phone when 8 months out of the year I usually can't hang out anyway.

Don't you feel a little guilty for the phone sex lady? I mean with you working at a call center and knowing what its like.

though i am not a cell phone freak, i feel its pretty difficult to stay without one
if you use a cell phone at least for an year, i think life without it will then become difficult...

I have a Nokia N75. It has a mini SD slot, so I can dump music on it and listen on it's little tiny tinny stereo speakers.
Most of the time, it's in my kitchen on the charger. Not that it is always dying, but I don't carry it with me.
I gotta go, my dad says talking on the phone is for pussies.
