BitTorrent Speed help?!?!

, I've looked everywhere and have not yet found a solution to my downloading problem. I am a I use BitTorrent downloader and my speed ranges from 0 -6k. I have researched everywhere and have not found a solution to my problem. See I dont have a router, my internet runs on a cable modem (motorola SB5100 SURFboard) and I think my internet speed is 150. I've spent weeks trying to figure out how to do the port forwarding thing only to find out a few days ago that only those who have routers can do that. I'm running on Windows XP.... Well I would reallly really really appreciate any help available..

are there enough seeds on your torrents? and you should switch to Utorrent. I havent used any others in a few years, but Utorrents shows you when you arent connectable

I've tried a few different torrents and they're usually popular torrents with a few seeds. I'm gonna download Utorrent to see if it makes a difference... Thanks for your help!!!

Those kinds of awful speeds are usually connection related rather than a lack of seeds.

Since you don't have a router, thats ruled out. Is XP's built in firewall on? Did you allow your client permissions to pass thru your firewall?

Does your ISP throttle torrent traffic? Google your ISP's name along with the keywords "bittorrent throttling" and see if they do.

Use one of the big 3 clients (utorrent, azureus, bitcomet) all of which have a protocol encryption setting you can toggle on to disguise your traffic as http.
Bitcomet's encryption only works with other bitcomet clients.

If your ISP is using sandvine, find a different way to fileshare, bittorrent won't get thru.

Azureus is great for someone just getting started. It will walk you through the configuration process, and will even help you with port forwarding. Set it for intermediate user, then you can encript your traffic. I have tried the other torrent engines, but keep going back to Azureus. Is you problem solved?

Azureus is old and slow beast, the development was stopped..

Yes, I am lazy. I know how to spell Azureus- I don't know how to spell "Vuse?" or however it is spelled. I know the switch, and I have the latest version, but I didn't want to look up how to spell it correctly. It did work good last night, got that movie in under an hour.

Okay, I decided to google it to see how Vuze is spelled. Now I can refer to Vuze instead of Azureus. I should have known- they would keep the "Z."

make sure that whatever torrent you download has at least a couple hundred seeds, and that it has a good seed to leech ratio
