This is a Zip Virus which is that small, it flies under your antivirus and goes straight into your registry, which then turns out to be called Bloodhound Sonar. Please bear with me, while I let you know what happened, and I could do with sounding off about this bastard virus, which has caused me over 3 days of nightmares. I wouldn't care, but I have Norton Security included with my Broadband package from BT, which costs me a fortune at £29 per month, and you would think if you pay your dues, that you would be covered if you needed help, but the Norton wanted £69 of me, and BT wanted £99 off me before they would lift a figure to help which was out of my reach, so I ended up going solo. (Oh I forgot to say I got the virus from downloading Peer Guardian from C.net, which should of been a good source) I wouldn't care I followed all the instructions at Norton, and there wasn't anything on their website that would help. Then I went to BT and there was nothing they could do unless they got their money off me. Okay, I tried to find a program that would pick it out of the registry, if their was a trojen remover, I went for it and downloaded it, but nothing touched this bastard virus. I looked into the registry to see if I could see anything that shouldn't be there, but this is a very sneaky virus, and I couldn't see it, It must hide itself in one of the many files, and I did try to look through every one. In the end I have had to re format my hard drive, and put all the drivers and software back.

I had really worked hard, but I got so far, but I had a little problem marrying my BT Hub to my wireless connection. I'm not joking, if I could of got hold of the technicans that I spoke to today I would of kicked them in their jewels. Both of them spoke down to me as if I was thick (ok I am) but I know how to follow instructions, and to be told to repeat the same process over 10 times, and to be asked if I had completed the task, and that was just trying to connect my computer to theirs, and then they realised that they couldn't do it unless it was in safe mode for some reason. To cut along story short, it took 2 phone calls and 4 hours to get me back up and running, I wouldn't care I had downloaded all the software and the drivers, it was just some information that was missing. I wasn't an impressed bunny.

I have just noted the file underneath about antivirus thread below, I will probably be wrong on this, I don't know what antivirus would of been able to stop that bastard virus. I must admit I could of thrown this computer through the window and if those technicans would of been near me, I would of kicked them in the family jewels.

You probably already know about this virus, and you probably have the most secure computer in the world, but I have had a good winge.

These days, I often backuped my c: drive using Acronis True Image to another drive as Image, it now only takes 10 mins. or so to restore my c: drive! :)

NEVER pay for anti virus software like that! Norton is a POS BTW. Get rid ASAP. Anti Virus software is highly over rated anyways. I hardly ever use it and Ive only got sick a few times and those times were my fault. Don't run apps from unknown sources...
its as easy as that.

True Image is great. I use it myself on all of my systems. As for Norton, I stopped using that POS three years ago. Avast! makes me comfortable enough.

Although I take a similar approch, its not a good idea for everyone. Even fully patched/updated, theres always people out there with 0 day exploits.
Your just sitting idle online, and b00m, infected. And you'll never know till you see problems appear.

AV's exist for a reason, use them, or format regularly (like me)

Petrena, when you say "Norton Security" do you mean Norton Internet Security? Because that's not an AV. I have Norton Antivirus and its worked perfectly for me and gotten me out of virus fixes. I've installed some of the free AV like Avast on my friends computers and found that they get virus' and I don't.
Btw to all you peeps out there...don't go around bashing Norton unless you've tried it. Then you can bash it. =P

NIS is a security suit that includes Norton Anti-Virus. Anyone who has actually had to deal with any computer having norton installed will agree that its a shabby POS client.
Just try to run the uninstaller for it. It will error without fail. If they can't even make an uninstaller, what makes me think they can fight virii?

Maybe that's because Norton hasn't detected it. Are you referring to everyone in this thread? I've used several Symantec products over the years and was disappointed with the majority of them, including Norton AV. =P

Just google Norton security or AV, and you'll find that anyone at all who knows anything about viruii or computers basically removes Norton and McAffee (the standard big names that come with your shiny new computer) and install Nod32 or Kaspersky (award winning innovative, user friendly and EFFECTIVE!) Fact is people are trying to screw u p your computer just for the hell of it, so you need to learn how to surf the web, what to download, to back up regularly and use a decent AVG. Its really pretty simple, but you just can't expect to take your PC out the box and let comapnies like MS and Norton watch your back, because they are capitalist conglomerated that want to make money, and a protected and long lasting PC doesn't make money!
