I wanted to do this on my Windows XP Pro/ SBC ADSL 150kB/s 10kB/s machine and wanted a static IP
Any help is appreciated.

you should ask your isp about it, call them up, and call technical support, and ask them for a static ip. it will cost you a few more bucks, but if you host servers, or something in that range, than you should get a static ip. my dsl came with a static ip, i think it was included with our gateway, so i didn't have to call up or anything.

What do you intend to use the static IP for? You could go call yer ISP up and make 'em give you one...but that'll knock your DSL cost up 3 fold... so 49.95 now is roughly 150...plus some of there oh so lovable tacked up bs charges....
If you wanna run a websever/FTP or whatever I'd say use...

or you could use a service like www.dyndns.org it's free

go to no-ip.com and download their dynamic IP update client--then all you have to do is set up a host name and the program does it for you
and it's free--i use it for my dc hub and my ftp
i have an sbc dynamic addy also
