I have heard of several - RuneScape, Diablo, Furcadia, Endless Online, etc, etc.

But I want everyone else's opinion. I played Furcadia for a while, it got crappy too many people not IC. Runescape is interesting but somewhat boring and drawn out.

Ideas?

I mess with NWN still. Haven't upgraded to NWN2 yet. If you find the right server, you should find a respectable group of players.

im still a fan of guild wars. one-time fee gets you playing a pretty decent MMO.

I can't tell you. I simply can't tell you.

I was uber anti monthly fee until I played a game that I enjoyed enough to make it worth it.

Play some games. Try the free ones, find free trials on the fee-pay games. Decide for yourself.

wow, i just delved deeper into the examples you gave. Diablo is the only one i have played myself, but i also have seen runescape played by some friends.

that furcadia and endless online look really really bad though. as it is, it's hard for me to recommend diablo. the online community are horrible assholes. i think you really should look into guild wars. it costs about the same as diablo, but you get most of the MMO feel without the monthly fee. best part is, if you come across any assholes in GW, you can always get away from them. the absolute worst they can do to you is spam the PMs at you, and there is a block option.

I'm on a few ignore lists on WoW because I don't put up with anyone's shit. Be it dipshit or elitist, if you are being an asshole to me on a computer game, I'm gonna shove my male sexual organ located in the lower abdominal area into your digital oral cavity.

I have a few friends that are really into WoW. I tried it out, but couldn't really get into it much. I thought the turn-based combat was a little annoying. Has anyone played Age of Conan?

funfiles has rpg its an idle rpg on irc where you log on and get time penalties for logging out or talking and such its a little different but more interesting than i thought it would be. sounds like watching paint dry when i read the description but turned out to be competitive and fun.

Anyone looking forward to Diablo III?

No, but I'll bet my significant other is...
I had a hard time with the first one. I may give it another go now that I have a better computer. Maybe he will teach me.

I just checked it out yesterday. Frikkin' awesome. The Blizzard page has a 19:00+ minute video. Will most likely get it someday.

I definitely encourage you to give it another go. D2 with the expansion pack is even better. Outdated, but still a good time, especially with friends.

That gameplay video blizzard has hosted on their site looks great. I was a little shocked to even know they had been working on a third. It's good to know they haven't invested all their resourses into WoW. Starcraft II looks good, but I'm holding out for Dawn of War 2. I understand THQ will be using the same physics engine they used for Company of Heroes (another excellent rts).

I never played diablo... but so far, I have hated every game blizzard threw at me

I don't know... Maybe I don't like the idea of a company that never comes up with New IP...

Sorry, what does new IP mean?

awesome response, but it doesnt fit in context.

Intellectual property. Meaning companies like blizzard an nintendo that always make sequels and spinnoffs of established franchises like mario and warcraft.

Turn based?

Were you playing the trading card game?

Though, a lot of games are basically digital representations of pen-and-paper Dungeons n Dragons.

New IP: Intellectual Property that is new. For a new good IP (PC or Xbox 360) check out Mass Effect and/or Bioshock.

Yeah, WoW really felt turn based to me, as in "let's run up to each other, you hit me first, then I hit you". True, it is much the same for many RPG's (D&D franchise). I heard that Age of Conan had a different approach to combat (more user controlled).

Haven't played Mass Effect, but Bioshock rocks!
