View Full Version : Format a linux partition without affecting windoes?

Ive got a dual install of ubuntu and windows on my pc. Am I able to format the linux part so windows can have more room? I just want to totally remove ubuntu.:icon_scra

Yup, you sure can!
Right click My Computer, select Manage.
Click on Disk Management
Locate the linux partition.
delete it.
Right click your windows partition
Select Extend
It will default to the max it can extend the partition to.
This is all assuming the partitions are on the same physical disk.
This is just a quick overview, but should get you through. Let me know if you have any questions.

Sorry I forgot to say I didnt end up installing linux I just set space aside for it. It says 19.7gb unalocated. Thew only options it gives me when right clicking is to create a new partition, primary or extended so I just click extended right?

yes but this way you will have a second disk at this capacity
if you had the ubuntu installed probably you will need to fix the MBR
try to select the windows partition and see if you se the option "extend"
this way you will increase the capacity of the windows partition by 19.7 GB

Ok thanks. Someone just gave me partition magic so that worked. Now its bigger.:icon_rr:
